    @@TeddylsALiar Patton and Kelly's Heroes were both filmed in 1969. This was a color episode of Hogan's Heroes, which meant 1966 and after. So, the timing of this ep plus those two films align somewhat closely. Take into consideration that the 1960's was a decade with other war films, that primarily didn't involve tanks, but those with war machines for lease were quite busy. Examples would be In Harm's Way, Tora Tora Tora, Where Eagles Dare, The Guns of Navarone, and Battle of Britain.

    I always liked Hochsteddar, Howard Caine. He did a good job and at times was quite amusing. Captain Stubing, |Gavin McLeod, played a really good gestapo agent on the show. He was quite young then. He did a great job. They used him a few more times in similar roles. Howard Caine was good though. He was in the movie Judgement at Nuremburg along with Col. It is probably fitting, since the Allies were using an Axis tank to blow up an Axis bridge, that in the first couple of minutes it appeared that Klink and Hogan were speaking each other's lines. I don't know if that was intentional, but, from an IndieFilm perspective, it was a nice touch.

Typically carried a 105 mm howitzer, and was used as close support artillery. Nicknamed the "Priest" due to the ringed traversal rail up top for machine guns. German armor was in short supply, especially for a US TV show with a limited budget. American armor was all over the place though, so the show just slapped German WW2 markings on it.

Today 20-oz Bottle's of Soda cost anywhere between $1.00-$2.10 each RE-DICK-U-LOUS. And the 12-packs where like 4 or 5 for $10.00, you don't see those prices anymore. On the up side you can get the cheap generic brands if the name brands are to expensive, that's how I do my shopping, I only buy name brand items when there on sale, the sale prices are more reasonable, especially when your on a budget. My advice, buy store brand items they are cheaper they taste nearly the same as the name brands items, and you'll save more $$$ on those item's too.

The weather is shit now because of actions in the past and getting worse because of idiots in the future. Ff anything there was more violence in the world people just didn't hear about it because TV and radio was still becoming mass media. For awhile you could watch the entire episodes of Hogan's Heroes on KZread, but CBS complained and now your only option is the ME TV network. However, they have to cram 20 minutes of advertising into every hour of viewing, so you trade over 5 minutes of each program for the ubiquitous and creepy drug ads peddling some very expensive remedy with a goofy made-up name which is more likely to do you harm than cure you, if you listen to the long list of disclaimers. The "tank" is not even a tank. It's a tracked, self-propelled artillery piece. Officially, it's an M7, 105 mm Howitzer Motor Carriage. It's nickname is the "Priest" because of the pulpit-looking machine gun ring on it's right side. It's not a German vehicle. It's American. A "Priest" (probably this same vehicle) made an appearance in the Season 1 Episode "Hold that Tiger."

    I don't want go split hairs but it's an armoured tracked combat vehicle. It's a tank. It may not be a MAIN BATTLE tank, but it's still a Tank. The German word for tank is panzer meaning "armoured or armour". So it's still a tank in German or English.

  • @33VMUH

    @33VMUH

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@fishyc150 I admit that the M7 resembles a tank, because it's tracked, has a large calibre gun and is armoured. But that's where the similarities end. If you tried to employ the M7 as a tank, it would fail miserably. It's gun is a howitzer that indirectly fires high-explosive ordnance. A tank's gun directly fires armour-piercing rounds at other armoured vehicles. In other words, a tank is designed to penetrate the enemy's defenses, fight other tanks and rapidly exploit the breakthrough. Unlike a tank, the M7 does not have its main gun in a rotating turret. The elevation of the howitzer can be raised and lowered. But horizontal movements require the entire vehicle to be rotated. While the M7 is armoured, its armour is quite thin compared to tanks. It can resist small arms fire, but thats about it. That's because the M7 is not a "front line" vehicle. It's a support vehicle designed to be used behind the front lines. Finally, in addition to not having a rotating turret, M7 completely lacks any protective cover. There are no hatches. The crew is completely exposed to the sun, rain and, worst of all, enemy fire.

  • @fishyc150

    @fishyc150

    @@33VMUH All semantics. The first "tanks" weren't tanks by those definitions. You are thinking of an MBT. That's a main battle tank. Think of an "aeroplane". A fighter is an aeroplane, so is a bomber. A fighter is not a bomber. An APC is technically a tank. So is an MBT. So is a tracked SPG. An SPG is not however an MBT. The first tanks didnt have rotating turrets or even big guns (dont even need to have a gun to be a tank). WW1 tanks had machine guns. I appreciate in common parlance a tank is an MBT. But that doesn't change its correct definition.

However since you appeared to be questioning the show on the number of times the bridge was blown up, I thought I'd point out that they would also call anything a Tiger tank. Obviously a show like this goes for comedy over realism, but some footage they use is a bit of a stretch. I remember a sequence in one episode where a bomber takes off, a very different bomber flies along, and a third bomber drops the bombs. A bit jarring to watch.

    Not being defensive, please note use of quotes from The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. Added for effect. Regarding planes, the same shot of a plane with man jumping by parachute is used whenever an agent or package is dropped. Also shot of train blowing up used several times. I wonder how the sound Klink makes when he is totally flummoxed is spelled out.? Diiiiiiisssssmissssed !

    Actually its an M7 Priest which is a U.S. SPG based of the M3 Lee, and M4a3 Sherman (depending on variant), some WERE sold to the U.K. but seeing how this was filmed in the U.S. I doubt that's the version they chose.
