HOFSÓS, Landscape Photography in Iceland | 4K

Landscape photography in Iceland offer many locations, which has yet to be explored. The small town of Hofsós is just such a location. With an old church, beautiful basalt columns, an old harbor and the best swimming pool in all of Iceland Hofsós is very worth a visit! In this episode I'll leave the beaten path and explore three locations in this pearl of Northern Iceland.

    Great dolly zoom vertigo effect in intro. I notice these little things you add Mads! 😉 Excellent example working with the conditions you’re given-using the negative space and minimalistic nature of those scenes with the flat weather. 👏🏼👍🏻 We almost took this detour to Hofsos for the pool and some laufas we’d heard we’re hiding away there but just didn’t quite have the extra few hours to spare! Very nice. I'd imagined that you'd process both the boat and the basalt rocks in BW when watching, was surprised you left them in color given the light. For the rocks, were you able to compose out the horizon or did you burn it out in post? Regardless I really like the feel of the water diminishing into emptiness above the rocks.

    The single colour of the boat in the black and white surroundings of the scene worked well Mads and the rock formations looked very interesting. In terms of the church, is that a scene that would work for you for the aurora borealis? great video as always

    Having just come back from 2 weeks in Iceland one thing I can say, It is so frustrating traveling with the expectations to capture great shots at places along the travels with limited time in each area only to be reminded that mother nature is in control of the outcome of the photo's by dictating the weather conditions.

  • @MadsPeterIversen

    @MadsPeterIversen

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yup that's kinda true, but it also forces you to work with what you got. If I could dictate mother nature I wouldn't have half of my favorite photos! ;)

  • 5 жыл бұрын

    Great video, as always! You mentioned using your tripod all the time. Do you do it even if the speed is fast enough, like 1/120, or 1/250 and you're using a lens (or body) with stabilization? Do you think the final result is noticeable? I'm asking just because I love using the camera in my hands whenever possible, only using the tripod when 'necessary'. Cheers from Rio!

  • @MadsPeterIversen

    @MadsPeterIversen

    5 жыл бұрын

    I'm pretty sure I didn't mention to use a tripod all the time. For the most part I prefer not to. It's just impossible to vlog and handhold the camera at once ;)

  • 5 жыл бұрын

    @@MadsPeterIversen Ah, ok. Great! I thought you were pro using it most of the time for sharpness sake! 😉But I really don't know if it makes much of a difference for fast shutter speeds. I just see so many photographers walking around with their cameras on tripods all the time in broad day light, that I was wondering if it would actually make a difference, even if slight.

  • @dimitristsagdis7340
    @dimitristsagdis73405 жыл бұрын

    Very nice all of them, but do tell us that the photos are at end :-)) Is the tar used to waterproof the boats or what? What's the connection between summer, tar and fishing villages.? And couldn't you do the stones in the sea with the mountains as the background? Also pls write next to each photo the various settings (mm, f/) and do let us know if you use any polarisers/grad filters (how many stops ND did you use for the stones in the sea)?

  • @MadsPeterIversen

    @MadsPeterIversen

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Dimitris. I always display the photos at the end and have done so in almost all my videos, no reason to say that during the video ;) I have no clue what the tar is used for, but you're probably right it has something to do with weather proving. As I said in the video I wasn't happy about how the photos turned out with the stones and I'm not gonna release the photos then. I don't display the settings for two reasons. 1) I want it to be about the photo and numbers clutter the presentation, 2) You can't use them for anything. If there's some odd number of shutter speed I say it in the video :)

    Ultimately the problem with Iceland is people. It is over-touristed. So, if one comes in the Summer then one might get only people photos as everything crawls with tourists including photographers chasing the sun. Went to Iceland back in the 1960s when it wasn't a tourist destination and it was a great destination. Now just another amusement park in certain places.
