The line breaks because it rubs on the black sleeve in the hole. Fast Lane installed some white line protectors (sleeves) on mine when they replaced the lines on my PA14

Cool! I'm not mad at all. This PA has been rock solid no issues for over 2 years. I love it.

Thanks for the walk through! I could be wrong, but I think Hobbie recommends you wrap the line the other direction around the screw and pass the bitter end under the line on the second time around.

Thank you for clear explanation . I have a hobie sport and need to find out how to tighten the rudder down line . I won't even use mine until landing at end of day .I've had countless issues and now am working doing everything myself due to lack of help available. If there is any way You can make a short video on just fixing this one problem,so I may get back to the water, I would be eternally grateful .I just finished packing bearings on the outer drum of mirage peddles and today tightened the right turn rudder line . But can't seem to find any information on my last issue.Sincerely, andrea

Not a good feeling when it happens when your offshore or outside the bay. Thanks for posting up this tutorial 🙂 Same thing happened to me two weeks ago just outside Dana Point Harbor. I was able to make it to Pure Watersports dock where they made a warranty repair.

I can’t understand why I can’t steer at all. Launched for two mins and had to pack up everything. It just keeps going in circles. The white lines appear to be good. I feel like it’s the black line going to the rudder. Does the black line simply pull it up and deploy it or does it steer it?

Thanks for that. My PA is an early one that I've had since it was new. Several years ago I bought a rudder line repair kit assuming that mine would fail eventually. After using this boat in fresh and salt water for many miles the original line is still holding up. I'm a big believer that if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm taking it on a wilderness trip in Maine soon and after watching your video I'll know how to handle the repair if it breaks out there.

Excellent tutorial!!! I've had my PA for about a week now and yesterday the rutter got stuck in the down position and I couldn't pull the rope lever back out to raise it for a good 2 hours. I left it alone, but I have a feeling some grass got caught in the rudder line or something b/c by the end of the outing I was finally able to raise the rutter again. Have you heard of something like this happening?

Thats interesting Zach. Were you doing a lot of reversing? That't the only way I can think of something getting stuck on the rudder. This is the first time I hear about this. Glad its resolved though.

@@RomanCastroVlog Yeah, hopefully it was just a fluke. It did remind me of the importance of understanding the inner workings of the pulley systems so that I can evaluate quickly if there's a real problem or not :)

Very helpful, thank you for this video... I am a brand new Hobie 2020 PA 14 owner and can use all the help/tips I can get!!! Can you tell me the thickness of the cord you used, was it 2mm?

I am not 100% sure but 6mm accessory cord should work. I'd look up a better answer on the hobie owners forum.

Hi Dennis, I had a spool of it for my speargun bands. Do a search for "Hobie Mirage Replacement 700 lb. Rudder Line". There are a few places that sell it by the foot. Basically 700 lb Spectra. Hope that helps. Sorry I didnt see this sooner.
