I have the award-winning HOBGOBLIN rulebook to show you! Let's take a first look together. I was actually kind of nervous and buzzing when I shot this video, this is a game (and a book) that I'm extremely proud of and I can't wait for you to have a copy of it in your own hands.

I should be greatly obliged if you would consider voting for my game HOBGOBLIN for UKGE’s best new miniatures game this weekend! www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/whats-on/show/awards-shortlist/
Congratulations on the award, Mike! The book looks great, sir. So well done…. The world is so intriguing, I love the different environments

this video randomly popped up when I opened youtube and, while I'm not that much into miniatures, the book looks beautiful, I love that art and the style in which it's structured, looks really good

Thank you! I’m really proud of what the four of us on the team made together. Also: ALL HAIL THE ALGORITHM!

@@planetsmashergames The algorithm also fed me this; I click on perhaps one recommended video a month, so I think that's a testament to what a good job you did with this video. The title and thumbnail ooze honesty and enthusiasm, and I'm amazed at how little the video felt like "here's why you should buy my thing" and how much it felt like "holy shit, this thing is so cool and I'm excited to have it and want to share that feeling with you". That's a really tough tone to navigate and you nailed it.

Beautiful like the liner notes of a metal album. Interesting layout and color choices…and inspiring!

Thanks so much! I dig the finished vibe of it so much. When you are writing a manuscript, you have images in your mind of what the layout might end up looking like, and it’s so fun to see the plain text I wrote spring to life in ways that I didn’t expect or imagine.
Can’t wait to get hold of my copy!
To be a fan of miniature gaming but to make it better that one of my favourite artists worked on your game just makes this even better!

Nice! can't wait for this one to hit my mail box. I believe I am a late backer on this one. I didn't think I would ever want another rank n flank game until looked into this one, perfection! minus the one little spelling error, lol.

I am not a mini-war gamer, but I got curious about the world/realm lore. Once you expand on it, please write an RPG lore book.

Looks pretty awesome 😍. If I ever manage to build & paint 2 army-sized forces, it'll be first on my list of rules to try. This and Saga Age of Magic.

@@planetsmashergames Cool. I like real differences between games.
Hey I really like Hobgoblin - I think the rules are excellent and are so far very underrated by the broader community. They're very very clever My question is: Have you ever considered doing something 'Similar' for 'Space Fantasy' (Ie 40k?) What I mean by this is simplifying the rule system a bit but also bringing in a lot of more modern concepts in design. Just interested. It's something I try and houserule sometimes but I don't have your background in design! Ty

Hey Ollie! It’s a fine and excellent question. I have ideas, but nothing fully formed yet. For a sci-fi thing, a la 40k, I wouldn’t start from Hobgoblin as a base, as the game would need to feel so different. In particular, the key challenge would be how to make lots of shooting unit interesting, as that’s not trivial!
@misomiso8228

@@planetsmashergames Oh interesting. I think one of most interesting things about Hobgoblin is that Magic and 'Strategy' use the same 'action resourse' which allows armies to be either lead be Sorcerer Lords or mighty leaders, but still compete. It's a very neat way to solve the problem of how to include magic or psychic powers without them dominating the game. That would be fun to see in a 40k related thing. Yes shooting is hard! In some ways you need to have an idea of the game size and format of armies you are aiming for (2000 points, 30-40 models of Marines?), and then work back from there! Love the content. Best wishes from a fellow Brit!

Oh, thanks. Yeah, that’s a great observation. My happy place happens to be around 1000 points, sort of 4-7 units/vehicles, so I can imagine optimising for that sort of scale. I think having a chaotic and unpredictable battlefield is also an interesting space, a bit like I did in A Billion Suns, (or a 40k game with lots of deep strike) with strategic placement being important and not just two battlelines.
Are you aware HOBGOBLIN is the name of an old horror novel where a teen plays a RPG called Hobgoblin?!

I honestly don't like the destruction nor how long that intro is. Gives me flashbacks of how my cousins and other kids played with their toys and broke them all. smashing them together and throwing them... Meanwhile at home we treated our toys like precious treasures to play out our stories with. I still have a box of toys in my parents house with action figures from when I was 7 years old. So, I'm sorry but I tend to skip the intro every time.
