Hobbywing 1080 setup and install in a TRX4 Defender - Part 1

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I'm installing a Hobbywing 1080 in a Traxxas TRX-4 Defender for a friend and this first part covers getting it all soldered together and the second part will cover installing it into the truck. There's some tips and tricks for soldering as well as ensuring that we can still have a light kit.
He's using Deans connectors so we'll be covering how to solder those up as well as adding some nice bullet plugs for the motor connection, which are an upgrade over the standard Traxxas ones.

One additional tip is to plug the male and female Deans/XT60's etc together prior to soldering and that will keep the solder contacts from melting out of alignment. When soldering batteries I use a spare insulated esc connector to avaoid shorts. I sometimes use a pair of pliers held closed with a rubber band to hold the connectors.

Great tip! Definitely better than trying to mess around with hot plugs

Great video again mate. I used to really struggle with soldering, it improved tenfold once I stopped using Argos soldering irons.😀

Thanks! The challenge is that a lot of kits are 60+ watts and for our use about 40 is the max, although temp controlled seems to be the easiest way these days

Hey Joe what are is the wire gauge/size of the bullet connectors for the yellow and blue wires to the motor I would need, I’m putting together a TRX4 for my first time here and I’m stuck to get this rig finished up and thanks for all the videos you put up btw!

I think motor wires are usually 12 awg and I always use 4mm bullets and some heat shrink to stop them bashing together and making sparks
