Paul Carter It is an offence to send false or grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing messages under the Communications Act 2003. See Intimidation and Harassment section above. Hoax calls are illegal under Section 49 of the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004 which states that: 'A person commits an offence if he knowingly gives or causes to be given a false alarm of fire to a person acting on behalf of a fire and rescue authority' (the relevant legislation in Northern Ireland is Article 23 of the Fire and Rescue Service (Northern Ireland) 2006). Where that person is found guilty of this offence, in England and Wales they will be liable to a fine of up to £2,500, imprisonment of up to 51 weeks or both, and in Northern Ireland, they will be liable to a fine of up to £5,000 and/or imprisonment of up to 6 months. In England and Wales a person who uses a public electronic communications network in order to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety, may also be issued with a fixed penalty notice for disorder of £80 under the penalty notice for disorder scheme provided for by section 1-11 of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001. It seems pretty lenient considering it might cost somebody there life.

I done 999 false calls in the past on monday 7th July 1997 at my old school I rung the fire service for people fighting I climbed out the window ran striaght to the pay phone picked it said hello fire brigade then the female operator said hello fire brigade back I put the phone down the fire service came said right there was some, one been picking the payphone and putting it down saying there was a fire here they came all the way from frodsham now they had to go all the way up to runcorn the male fire fighter said does,nt matter who it was.On wednesday 11th April 2001 at youth club was the second time I made 999 false calls I rung 999 as a laugh put the phone down the male police officer came. I lost two weeks allowance for that.On wednesday 10th April 2002 12 months later at my old school was the third time I made 999 false calls I rung the ambulance up the operator said emergency which service do you require please police fire brigade or ambulance I said ambulance please the female operator an ambulance I said some, one sucks then the ambulance rung back. Then the last time on wednesday 12th June 2002 at my old school was the 4th time I made 999 false calls at my old school I rung 999 put the payphone down the police called back came up to the school had a chat with me asked did I do it I said no he asked does he have to go to Cheshire & get his tape out I said no I did he asked why I said it was a just a laugh then I think he said he should be doing better things rather then coming up to also the the staff mentioned I done it before & the male police officer said this time I,m on my final warning I do it again I,ow be end up in court

The police actually went to every secondary school in Doncaster cuz they always record the phone call so they played it in every school in Donny and in one school they played it and everyone turned around and looked at the teenage girls cuz they recognized their voice and now the girls both have a criminal record and the younger girls actually wouldn’t of died cuz the fire engine would of gotten there on time if it wasn’t for those idiotic teenagers...

It was an oversight that wasn't discovered until we finished shooting. Most of the scenes we only had time to do one take as we were working with a budget of £0, using the free time of real firemen and control centre operatives.

Thank you for the comments both of you. Just to clarify, the point the film is trying to stress is: Hoax calls divert fire engines from real emergencies, in this film there was only one fire engine in the station because it was a small village. The second engine came from the nearest available location which was Sheffield(being a larger station it has more free engines) and had to travel quite far thus unable to save the children.

Even though hoax calls kills, that woman is just as bad for lighting the candles where the children were playing. The mother should not have lit the candles, and then she could go out for a smoke. the mother is as much to blame. If Doncaster were not attending that hoax call, the children would still be alive, but the mother should be held responsible for lighting those candles and leaving them unattended. In the LFB the hoax call is known as a mickey which is the LFB slang term for hoax call.

hoax calls are not funny peer pressure or not just think if it was one of your family members and someone did a hoax call and they couldn't get to your family in time, it's not big it's not clever it costs a lot to bring out a fire engine same with the ambulance service you just don't do it.

I don't think you've quite grasped the purpose of the video. The title clearly states Hoax Calls Kill, this would have been difficult to express without a hoax call being made. It's simply telling you making a hoax call could get someone killed. Also imagine if your house was on fire and the fire service told you they were busy atm, wouldn't you rather hear them tell you they were at least sending an engine as soon as possible?

@@flogaming7615what exactly do you mean by not stopping the fire. Did you mean her not putting out the candles or her extinguishing the fire when it started. In that second case she couldn’t have put the fire out as one since there was smoke in the building she would likely still have inhaled it and then became unconscious herself and two it is likely that by the time she saw it the fire was very big. The first rule in extinguishing fires is life safety which means that you should first make sure that you will be able to extinguish the fire safely. You should only attempt to extinguish a fire if it is small and isn’t spreading or growing larger or when there is no smoke in the area. If the fire is large or gets out of control or if there is smoke then you should never attempt to extinguish the fire but instead immediately leave the area and call 911 or in this case as this video is presumably set in the United Kingdom 999 and then let the firefighters extinguish the fire as not only are they properly trained to deal with fires but they are also properly equipped with hoses and breathing apparatus.
