HMS Richards Remembers Meeting Ellen G White Interview

adventistsermons.blogspot.co.uk/ In this video the Late HMS Richards Snr recounts the time he saw Ellen White preach and the impact it had on the people. He remembers people crying as they repented and how he felt the presence of the Lord during that meeting that he was afraid to open his eyes as he thought he might see God.
When you were a boy you saw Ellen White personally, didn't you? Can you tell me a little bit about her?
A. Yes, when my brother and I were little boys she came to Denver and talked with Father and Mother. My brother sat on one side of her and I on the other, and she talked to us, too. I don't remember much about what she said, but when I was about 16 we had a camp meeting in Boulder, Colorado, where the campus of the University of Colorado is now. There was a big octagon building with an iron roof that seated about 1,000 people. The Adventist population of Colorado then was only about 500, and there were probably about 250 there at that meeting. But that day the building was packed. People of all faiths were interested in seeing the Adventist prophet.
Q. What year was that?
A. It was 1909. She died in 1915. I don't remember her subject, but I was one of the boys who put the furniture in the tents.
She wore a long, black silk dress. She wore good material, very plain-a little white around her wrists and around her throat. On her head was a little motherly cap over her gray hair. I remember her as a sweet, old motherlike woman. She had a big floppy Bible, and just as she began to talk, it began to rain. You can imagine the noise it made on that iron roof. She had no amplifier, but she did have a tremendous preaching voice. It was just like a silver bell. You could hear it right through all that rain on the iron roof. She talked for about thirty minutes, using more than one hundred texts. She'd turn to the texts in her Bible, but she didn't stop to look and read. She knew and quoted every text she used. One text just after another. It just came as natural as part of her speech.
After about thirty minutes, Willie White came up behind her and said, "Now, Mother, we've got a long journey ahead." That was their first stop from California, you see. "You've got meeting, after meeting, after meeting-doz ens of towns and long journeys, and we don't want you to overdo and get tired." She replied, "I don't want to stop yet. I haven't prayed yet; I want to pray first." So she talked for about three minutes more and then knelt down on the plat form and began to pray. Her first words were, "Oh, my Father." She didn't say "Our Father"; it was "my Father." Within two minutes there was a mighty power that came over that whole place- a great power. I was afraid to look up for fear I'd see that God was standing right there. She was talking to Him. She'd forgotten all about us. She only prayed about five or six minutes at the most, but as she prayed there were sobs all over that audience-people weeping over their sins. She wasn't even looking at them. She was down on her knees with her eyes closed while praying, and Heaven came down and touched the earth, and God honored her as His prophet.
Q. That personal experience con vinced you that she was a prophet?
A. Yes. I know all the arguments why there should be a prophet, and I believe them. But if we didn't have a single one of them, I'd still believe that she was God's prophet because of what I saw. It was one of the turning points in my life. I've never doubted her since. A revival broke out. Those Baptists, Methodists, Catholics, and Adventists were all weeping over their sins. You know she was a great revivalist, but she didn't get up and harangue the crowd. She prayed, and men took their stand and some of them became preachers. She was a humble woman. She kept her place as a mother in Israel. She was like the prophetesses Deborah and Huldah in the Bible.

My family on my mother’s side, living in India, would listed to Pastor HMS Richards senior over all-India radio. Seven of twenty one of us became SDAs because of his preaching and his deep wonderful voice of faith. He would always close his time by saying,”Have faith in God…press onward, ever going forward in faith.” His voice was so earnest and Godly that I can never forget it. What a Blessing he was to my dear faithful family- especially the seven who bravely accepted the SDA teachings and left the popular, well established church to take their stand for Jesus! Ellen White’s writings are truly inspired. No doubt in my mind. Thank God for them also. She upholds the Bible completely. Amen🙏🏼🌟❤️

Thank you for posting this interview between HMS Richards, senior. and his son, HMS Richards, junior. It was my privilege to have had HMS senior offer the prayer when I was among ministerial candidates being ordained at the Ky-Tn Conference Camp Meeting in 1981. Now, in 2016, at 65 years of age and still preaching in the Ky-Tn Conference, my love for Jesus is still growing. I remember as a boy hearing HMS senior preach once at the Michigan's Camp Meeting. His sermons were felt like he was conversing to me personally, and with a fatherly tone of voice he made Scripture come alive, interspersed with stories and anecdotes. When he prayed it was just as he described having heard Ellen G White pray. While listening, at the end of this post, to him reading parts of the last chapter of the book Great Controversy, it was my privilege through tears of gratitude, to recite those words with him. What a grand and blessed hope we have in Jesus! Surely He is coming soon! --Lloyd Schomburg

@@jgvtc559 That is Satan who stood behind you and encouraged you to say such a blasphemous thing about God's Prophet....what HMS Richard's described was the very Presence of Christ Himself, moving on the hearts of all those people, bringing personal conviction of sin, and honoring Mrs. White as His special chosen Messenger to His remnant church. The devil NEVER bring a conviction of sin upon anyone....that fiend only brings guilt and actually encourages us to sin! What happened at that meeting was obviously an almost visible outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Mrs. White during that prayer, and His presence is what brought conviction of sin to the hearts of all those in attendance. That is literally the Holy Spirit's job, as stated by Jesus Himself. So that was an insult to God to say what you just did.

I go by the bible and the bible alone - I do not take what my pastor says as gospel, and I do not believe the words of man, sola scriptura is our only salvation. In order to break down the barriers of prejudice and impenitence the love of Christ must have a part in every discourse. Make men to know how much Jesus loves them, and what evidences He has given them of His love. What love can equal that which God has manifested for man by the death of Christ on the cross. When the heart is filled with the love of Jesus, this can be presented to the people and it will affect hearts.-Letter 48, 1886.

Also, this voice if you think about it sounds like it would come from a heavier person. HMS Richards didn't have to try to sound "old Timey." His voice sounds more relaxed.

Did The Most High forgave people when they ask for forgiveness for their sins up to the time before jesus died ...and if so who was doing intersession...

The same way all the saints', beginning w/Abel, prayers were captured and reserved in heaven as in the days of David, king of Israel. Your question brings bear that Jesus interceded before, during and after He came to earth on behalf of His saints. But the books (journals)/sanctuary cleansing began to be in 1844 and after He returned to heaven. It's by faith before; manifested after.

They must have gotten forgiveness otherwise a host of people died in their sins during their only probation. Noah and his family were forgiven their sins; those outside the ark who drowned were not. 2 Chronicles 7:14

The people in the time of noah were wicked people. The Most High wanted to wipe them off just like he did in sodom and gomorror they served other false gods and all the abominations you can imagine..noah and the other hand was righteous. but you still have not shown me where in the old testament that shows jesus was interceding to The Most High for the sins on the people before he came on earth. Besides from Genesis to Malachi..not 1 single prophet knew of jesus or even mention him. they all prayed directly to The Most High God, in heaven

Ellen White is acclaimed by the SDA as a true and inspired prophetess. I believe the evidence proves otherwise: Here are some of her many false teachings. Satan repented and tried to return to heaven” (SPIRITUAL GIFTS, volume 1, pp.18,19) People alive in 1856 would live to see Christ’s Second Coming. (TESTIMONIES, volume 1, pp.131,132). Investigative Judgment. (What Seventh Day Adventists Believe, p.312) “In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He (Christ) Entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry”. This is outrageous! See: Hebrews 7:27 and Colossians 2:13-15. Atonement was complete and final at the cross.

    1) Why don't you believe Satan could have realized his forfeiture? 2) I read the 1T., pp. 131-32 ref; it's simply saying members are in different periods -- some will be alive at Christ's 2nd coming, according to the Bible. 3) If you understood Moses' and the ancient priesthood administration of the sanctuary, you'd understand EG White's explanations. St. Paul: "..the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest..." (Heb 9:8) during Paul's tenure. This is the temple that Moses copied. Christ's sacrificial work was completed at the cross, but not the review, cleansing, and adjustment of the heavenly books/journals (symbolized on the Day of Atonement in the 7th month of the Hebrew year). This is what Christ started doing in 1844 when the 2300 years ended, else it's meaningless for God to have given this specific time period. See Daniels 8:13,14, Notice in Dan. 7:7-10: the 4th beast (Roman empire) precedes the casting (set-up) of the thrones where the Ancient of day sits (verse 9). So the books' work could not have begun before the 4th beast w/the "little horn" (papacy) arose in the 6th century AD. (See 7:10; Rev. 4:1-3; 20:12). Heb. 7:27 affirms His atoning the documents above. Col. 2:13-15 simply confirms we need not do animal sacrifices any more or have earthly priests, etc. It does not address the final cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary, which is the atonement work full circle. I hope this helps to clarify things.

Marjorie Lewis According to the Bible, a false prophet was detected and punished in Israel because of failed prophesies - Deuteronomy 18:20-22. Jesus warned "Beware of false prophets - you will know them by their fruits (what they prophesy). Research reveals Ellen White's MANY false prophecies and strange teachings she claimed had been given to her by God. Investigative Judgment teaching? False! Atonement was completed on the cross "having cancelled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us, he took it away, nailing it to the cross..." (Colossians 2:14-16). The New Testament believers rejoiced in a triumphant Christ, who had cried "It is finished" on the cross. Heaven was not staring at an incomplete Atonement until 22nd October, 1844.

Comethouse, the evidence proves you are a false prophet. Those who knew EGW many time doubted at first that she was not of God. But, when they observed her in vision, etc. they became believers. The evidence shows that she was a godly woman who was a relunctant messenger of God. She wasn't volunteering, but God chose her. So different from the cult leaders of today.

guitarcountry1 I have never claimed to be a prophet - Ellen White said she was, claiming inspiration - acknowledged by the SDA. Look again: She said, and it was printed and shared by the SDA: Satan repented and tried to return to heaven” (SPIRITUAL GIFTS, volume 1, pp.18,19) People alive in 1856 would live to see Christ’s Second Coming. No-one, outside of the SDA would entertain any of this. And there are lots more that could be cited. And remember THE BIBLE is clear about appraise the "prophet": Deuteronomy 18:20-22.

comethouse35 Well, if the Atonement ended or was completed at the cross (everybody's life events completed at the cross), What is the book opening (Rev. 4 and 5), the breaking of the 7 seals all about, which the Bible says are "things which shall be hereafter" (1:19; 4:1), after John's time? How do you explain the 2300-day period in Daniel, if EGW is wrong? And the "door" that opened? Is it there just as fluff with no value to the gospel? Seems you've overlooked Dan 7:10, describing the same event in heaven. Is not the judgment = to atonement? As I said before, re-read Leviticus on the Atonement; it was held at a different time than the yearly round of priestly services. Plus there were two priestly offices. Besides, the lamb was slain in the 1st month or spring of the year; Atonement was the 10th day of the 7th month (fall) -- two different events at two different times. I think you should pray without prejudice and ask Christ for wisdom and clearer understanding these "things". He's ready and willing to help you if you honestly and humbly want to know. There are helpful resources where these explanations are written in detail. Could it be you misunderstand the Bible? Many Jews didn't understand Christ when He repeatedly explained spiritual concepts and His biblical role, because they didn't want to. I hope you're a fair-minded person and won't use their angle. Again, I read the Test. V. 1 quote; the words don't reflect what you've concluded. Is the 1856 statement an exact quote? Could you write it word-for-word?

Sister White was a good Christian lady. Who helped others and preached to follow Jesus. It is sad that you attack her. “Christ crucified, Christ risen, Christ ascended into the heavens, Christ coming again, should so soften, gladden, and fill the mind of the minister that he will present these truths to the people in love and deep earnestness. The minister will then be lost sight of, and Jesus will be made manifest. Lift up Jesus, you that teach the people, lift Him up in sermon, in song, in prayer. Let all your powers be directed to pointing souls, confused, bewildered, lost, to the ‘Lamb of God.’ Lift Him up, the risen Saviour, and say to all who hear, come to Him who ‘hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us.’ Let the science of salvation be the burden of every sermon, the theme of every song. Let it be poured forth in every supplication. Bring nothing into your preaching to supplement Christ, the wisdom and power of God. Hold forth the word of life, presenting Jesus as the hope of the penitent and the stronghold of every believer. Reveal the way of peace to the troubled and the despondent, and show forth the grace and completeness of the Saviour.”-Gospel Workers, 159, 160. CET 247.1 Tell why would Satan lift up Jesus?
