August 16 2017.The UK's one of two new Aircraft Carriers arrives at its home port in Portsmouth accompanied by a flyover!. HMS Queen Elizabeth is the lead ship of the Queen Elizabeth-class of Super-carrier, the largest warship ever built for the United Kingdom's Royal Navy and capable of carrying up to forty plus aircraft.

Rocco Palen narddog they can retro fit it. It wasn't uses because the new systems has not been tested when it was being built. Imagine if we had fitted them and they hadn't worked.
Tear to my eye, Good old days, a Fleet carrier, "Splice the mainbrace" I will be later.

What a fantastic Carrier, Top speed 35 mph....Drive down to Pompey Portsmouth tomorrow, take some fantactic pictures of the Biggest Royal Naval ship ever to be commissioned. Max top speed 33 Knots. Range 12000 miles which is the other side of the world (New Zealand) Her sister Ship HMS Prince of Wales will be lauched next year and she is 8% faster.

smoochym Good point! Guess Frigates can be used to some extent. Can also use subs and probably rely on American destroyers (when they aren't colliding them with container ships)
by the time its put to sea fully fitted, it will be obsolete

in terms of equipment it will be, the aircraft it will use are fraught with problems, dont get me wrong its great we have a new carrier , but its taken too long for it to be in service, we should have bought a few american carriers with the aircraft already tried and tested..
