i was there in Portsmouth when it came in out of the freezing fog, it may have been -4 degrees but we stood out there and cheered, then they played "we are sailing" as it went past the round tower :'(
scrapping the harriers and ark royal was the stupidest decision ever made by the british government

Along with the rest that see the Army at 72000, the RAF with 7 front line squadrons and the Navy with 5 submarines!
A few of us had tears from the cold. Honest.
Maybe one they'll build another Ark Royal carrier
The very best of British.
@Dan213456 True. I did wonder though what the crew like the air controllers, and the air mechanics did after the harriers left.
Sorry but it wasn't an aircraft carrier! It was a Through Deck Cruiser and wasn't worthy of the Ark Royal name :-(

It WAS an aircraft carrier. It was called a "cruiser" but this is just a name they invented in those times just to "hide" the fact that it was indeed a carrier.

It was because heavy under labour that scrapped all the carriers in the 1964 defence review too embarrassed to admit they messed up so had to call it through deck cruiser
Apalling waist.bloody Tories and their defence reviews more like a slash and burn policy.
Viva Rússia!
