Watch Titanic Sink in Real Time: • Titanic Sinks REAL TIME
This documentary was created for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of HMHS Britannic, sister ship of the infamous RMS Titanic, in November 2016. This full-length animation of the Britannic sinking, beginning with the impact of the mine and ending with her sinking, is in real time. This is a complete animation; not a short animation that was slowed down to match real time. This is also highly accurate as the team has contacted many well noted Britannic and Titanic historians for their input and resources on this project:
Mark Chirnside
Jack Eaton
Charles Haas
Richie Kohler
Michail Michailakis
Simon Mills
Mike Poirier
Bill Sauder
The documentary also includes narration from noted Titanic historians:
Daniel Klistorner
Ken Marschall
Parks Stephenson
Including narration from producer of our game, "Titanic: Honor and Glory," Matthew DeWinkeleer, and many survivor accounts from a voice cast of actors:
Ellen Gilbert
Olivia Gilmer
Nigel Hampson
Scotty Lorenz
Thomas Lynskey
James Penca
Dan Smith
Jordan Toovey
Annelies van Overbeek
Nicholas Walsh
Ophelia Wollny
Rossin Wood
A clock is included in the top right corner keeping track every five minutes, including key moments.
The animation was created in Unreal Engine 4. The model used is a combination of parts recycled from our T:HG model, re-textured models, older models created by our team, and a few new bits made just for Britannic.

Can we all take a second and pay respect to the amazing woman Violet Jessop. The Lady was on the RMS Olympic. Was on the Titanic when it sank. Then managed to not only survive the Britannic sinking but then also survive the damn ships propeller trying to turn her into hamburger and come too in a pool of body parts. Talk about one tough and brave woman.

Fun fact: in June-July of 1916, the Britannic was actually pulled out of hospital service and repained as a passenger liner with White Star. However this only lasted until August and she never served on a passenger voyage. She was again requisitioned as a hospital ship and repainted that month, and 3 months later, sank.

What I learned from watching this kind of vids: 1) Ship can sunk very fast, much faster than "Titanic" movie ends. 2) Don't evacuate by boats if the ship is moving. Really. 3) If the crew asking you for don't panic, it's time to panic. 4) If the ship's bow is underseas u have about 5-10 mins to gettafckouthathere.

Captain Bartlett is unfairly criticized regarding this accident: 1) According to Wikipedia, the ship could stay afloat with 6 or less compartments exposed which was the case here. What killed the ship was the open portholes, but Captain Bartlett wasn't aware of this. His efforts to beach the ship was not foolish optimism as the Britannic would have been able to pull this off if not for the open portholes. If he did not try to beach the ship, insurances would have sued him to bankrupt ("Why didn't you try to beach the ship ?! You were only some miles away !"). 2) The lifeboats ripped by the turbines are not his fault. It is the crew who launched the lifeboats without his order while the ship was moving. 3) He got out of the Britannic only when the ship was doing its final plunge and when the bridge was flooded so much he could swim. For all he knew, he was the last on board. And he didn't board a lifeboat, he just jumped overboard to the sea. So, in a way, he did go down with the ship. This deserves some respect. He only had 50 minutes to act. He tried his luck and only failed because of unforeseen circumstances.

Two problems Captain Smith had that meant it was unavoidable that most died.

It was probably a better fate for it to sink instead of being beached and repaired. It's currently well-preserved by at its current resting place and would've been scrapped like Olympic had it survived the war.

lifeboat capacity did not cause the disaster. When the titanic went down, 1500 people were still inside the ship, and the early lifeboats were not even full. There was no way of getting all those people up to the boat deck and into boats, in the time that was allowed. They were still lowering lifeboats up to the end. So even if they had many more boats, they would not have been launched.

If you think about it. If you made a ship that sunk then you should be sad, I mean people are entrusting your creation to safely transport them to their destination, and for it to sink after all the labor and efforts architects and builders did for it to be made will be put to waste, not to mention the resources, all it takes is for one mishap to take a detour directly to the bottom of the ocean.

"We didn't have much success getting away from the ship's side. The Britannic was still pushing forward under her own steam. Suddenly, all the men began leaping into the sea. No shouts. Just splashes as they leapt for it. Within moments, I found myself to be the only occupant of these life boats. but it didn't take me long to find out the reason. Britannic's huge propellers were churning and mincing up everything near them: men, boats, and everything was just one ghastly whirl. I turned to leap into the sea, but I hesitated. I forced my self into the water, but was unable to swim. Then hit on the head by something solid. I believe it was either a piece of a boat, or the propeller itself. It hit me three times on the head. Terrible blows that made my brain rattle, but fortunately it hit me where my hair was the thickest. an arm grabbed me and pulled me to the surface. It gripped me and moved as mine did. I grabbed it back as i surfaced, but to my horror found that it was merely a severed arm and part of a torso. As the great white liner steamed away from me, I saw to my horror a severed head to my left, floating, despite having been cracked open like a sheep's head severed by a butcher. Wreckage of every sort was everywhere as the ship slowly ploughs into the distance." - Violet Jessop (wow I don't get this much likes and stuff thank you)

Not true, Timmie. The original, Olympic, outlived her sisters and was ultimately scrapped at the end of her service (a bad business decision in my mind, they should have converted her into a Museum ship and made money from people wanting to experience some of the classic services, as well as see what the Titanic was similar to). That said, I will agree that the ships, while beautiful, were really unfortunate, for two of the three to sink.

I'm not saying it's people's fault for not learning how to swim, but if you have been through what she had then there's really no excuse for not learning. Also life jackets are there so you can float indefinately. It may not have mattered on Titanic since the water was cold enough to kill no matter what, but in warmer waters like the Mediterranean or the tropics it's easy to run out of energy trying to swim for however long it takes for rescue to arrive.

People did not learn how to swim, for example 54 % of the population in the USA still cannot swim, while in the UK its is only 12% now.. It is still stupid for anyone on a ship not to have access to a lifejacket. You do not go into the water voluntary so you may be injured, or unconscious. Swimming losses the body heat much faster allowing hypothermia to attack. You can go and shout at people for not learning to swim a 100 years ago, good luck with that

A great video, Britannic was an unlucky ship, but it seems her captain, crew and passengers for most part were lucky, and did not panic, and survived the sinking. Sad ending for the great ship, but happy there were so many survivors.

I can't get over the sheer bravery of all the stokers and engineers in these situations...still having the brass cojones to open the throttle on the engines once again as the engine room floor is taking on an ever increasing angle...

Whoever is making these sinking ship videos is freakishly good. I was wondering though.. If you need a side-kick to help you on your projects, I'll have you know that I am excellent in the skills of drawing stick figures.. I feel your clips are missing this vital component. I can currently draw stick figures in roughly 10 different positions. I have perfected the art of triangles and bows to represent women and smaller stick figures to represent kids. You could have your people contact my people and we can have a sit down to discuss future projects.
