HLPC Cultural Medallion: Larry Kramer, October 27, 2022

Installment of a Cultural Medallion honoring Larry Kramer on October 27, 2022. The ceremony was led by Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, who established the Cultural Medallion Program for the Historic Landmarks Preservation Center. Other participants include Will Schwalbe, best-selling author, editor and journalist; Gail Papp, Former Director of New Plays and Musicals Development of the Public Theater, Bill Goldstein, editor, author and official biographer of Larry Kramer; award-winning television and film producer, Sheila Nevins; Peter Staley, Political Activist, David Webster, Architect and Husband of Larry Kramer; and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, U.S. National Institutes of Health.
The award-winning movie producer, novelist, and playwright Larry Kramer, whose pioneering literary work depicted the romantic and political possibilities of gay community, was equally well known for his confrontational activism as one of the co-founders of GMHC during the early years of the AIDS epidemic and as the catalyst for ACT UP, the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power.
