Like the kind of backstory where it’s a 4th wall break, and it’s revealed to you as the player but you know your character doesn’t know, and you’re suddenly sympathetic with the enemy but your character is too far into it to quit but you as a player just want to stop.

This sounds like a boss in a game that you should have not messed with (aka final boss) that takes you many days to complete
