It's kind of funny. If I fill the tank of my Acura 400 times, the tank will have EXACTLY the same capacity on the 401st fill up. So sad the same cannot be said for the EV batteries.

@jameslatimer4091 You clearly dont know anything about EV batteries. EV batteries have an 8 year warranty but is expected to last to 15+. Replacing an EV battery does not cost $25k unless you have a really really expensive EV with a really large battery. The average cost for a replacement is $137 per kWh of the battery. The average EV with a 300 mile range has a 75 kWh battery, so that is roughly $10,250 in replacement cost.

Renting an EV is impractical especially for their rental car customer base. Hertz's strategy to go heavy into EVs was just plain stupid. People rent cars to drive for vacation and people who have busy business schedules. You rent a car and you have to figure out how and where to charge it and charging time takes forever. No one is going to rent cars and spend have the time looking and charging the cars. Whoever in Hertz thought this was a great idea must have not been in rental operations.

Not only did they buy EVs they also invested in installing charging stations at their maintenance lots.

I explained this in another thread, so I dont really want to do it again. First time EV drivers are more likely to get into a crash than gasoline cars, which results in unexpected expenses.

I think common sense will tell you that EV’s work best for short trips in the city when you can charge at night at home to have a full charge every morning. When you rent a car it means you are NOT at home and need to use public infrastructure which becomes a problem.

Yes they take an unusual size of tire that is very difficult to find and the cars are very hard on the tires which makes it expensive to keep tires on an EV

Yep, more R&D needed. Charging like an iPhone is going to fade, fast. No where near as efficient as a petroleum combustion engine.. Charging stations are an unsafe idea subject to the elements and to vandalism

Instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars on ev charging stations how about the electrical grid I lost power on Friday and just got it back Saturday night we energies of Wisconsin had over 60 thousand without power.

I just bought a used EV after much research. It’s great to drive, but variability in mileage is maddening. The car will literally tell me that it’s good for 260 miles, I’ll make an eight mile round trip, and then get home with 230 miles left. The software update that was supposed to be installed overnight on the WiFi network had to instead be applied at the dealership for…reasons…

EVs are too expensive to rent. That's why.

They have an EV at my work for administrative purposes. In winter temperatures, turning on the heater drops the “miles left until empty” from 51 to 13. EV’s are not ideal for cold weather or wintery states.

Bit of a no brainer. EVs are 'use specific' and they fall in a narrow scope like a daily commute, or grocery getter. Rental cars have to be 'all things to everyone' it has to be ready to drive 1,000 mils overnight for a meeting somewhere, which is doable in an EV but is not something a car renter wants to deal with and certainly not pay a premium for. Nice effort HERTZ, just a bit ahead of time.

Both these car types (gasoline and EVs) will have their own market each with its advantages and disadvantages. It depends upon the needs of the customer whether he needs an EV or a gasoline car (until EVs come up with some new battery technology to overcome its shortcomings). Until then, customers will always have the choice.

Hertz should replace all of the EV's with high horsepower muscle cars. Hellcats, Camaros, and Mustangs. Hertz has offered their own variations of such vehicles. Get to work with the marketing department. Hertz edition GT500 and Demon 170 on the rental lots.
