In case you never found out, or if someone else wants to know, the true context is that Grawitz was a Nazi doctor who committed severe crimes against humanity. He was asking permission to flee Berlin before the Soviets got there, as he know there was no way he'd go free otherwise. Since Hitler denied him, he eventually blows himself and his family up with grenades at their dinner table.
