@@sablesalt Bruh… Avalugg was made dirty and keep like that forever. The only thing you can do with it is try to (emphasis: TRY) check your opponent's Physical Attacker to force an switch and that's it. - Only direct punishment to switch-in was Toxic (got removed in Gen9). No free turn hazard entry neither proper sabotage/support besides Rapid Spin (and how suck being an spinner weak to Stealth Rock). Not even a "hit hard" move until Body Press in Gen8 (and sometimes still underwhelming). - Unable to properly check a Physical Sweeper because ICE TYPE ONLY RESISTING ITSELF. Most cases of switching to Avalugg in order to save other 'mon ends up in sacrifice rather that walling (and Avalanche, Body Press, Earthquake, Rock Slide/Stone Edge and Iron Head/Heavy Slam being your only payback options doesn't helps a lot). - Its non-existent Special Bulk forces YOU to switch-out Avalugg or just accept you committed a mistake bringing it to battle at the moment your rival brings an at least decent Special Attacker. - Sturdy as an ability only exists as a reminder of the previous point. And who would try an Ice Body Stall on Hail when Toxic and Hail are no more? I swear: before Gen9, Avalugg was lucky enough to have Recover in order to see some viability in NU/PU. Without that its a direct candidate to Below PU (and its ranked as that in Gen7-8). Now is RU but obviously bc there is a lack of 'mons until Home arrives.

You can tell that with some of the Pokémon did they create it’s either crazy underwhelming or wildly overpowered… some of these Pokémon it’s either their stat distribution… they’re typing, their move set, an ability, or a combination of all of the above.

Well, here's something to think about. Originally, we were only supposed to be able to trade in Pokémon, but trainer battles were eventually added. So players want a company that's been kinda just talking a leisurely walk with Pokémon to suddenly start running. To me, it's fairly obvious that design choices tend to be for the story mode first.

@@TWLSpark I don’t know about Zacian anymore tho bro. They NERFED him pretty big now. Brought down his base attack stat, and change his ability to getting a boost ONCE a battle. Now Koraidon & Miraidon are possibly the strongest, Pokémon now! With their strong signature moves, their abilities that boost the power of their moves, and the ability to hold an item which can also boost the Power of their moves…. Mannnnnnnn

@@TWLSpark if you look at Zacian another way it kind of confirms their point, if GameFreak was more surgical about designing these mons for balance they would not make Shield Dog 100x worse than Sword Dog. like it's pretty blatant, just as they don't care if a mon is underpowered, they don't put THAT much effort to safeguard from an OP mon either. like they try a bit, but for real they really did just go "ok if dog 1 is attack, dog 2 is defend" like it's at all even lol.

Rock was the first boss type in Gen 1. It was meant to teach new players that they can't just spam Tackle all the time. Rock had great type advantage against common early route Gen 1 mons, too. Ice was also the only weakness of Dragon in Gen 1. Dragon was meant to be the strongest type in the game, so, to make them more powerful, I think Gamefreak made Ice-types crappy on purpose, with most of them having awful stat distributions.

I also fully believe Ice is a mistake. It literally only does well in Kanto and that’s because nothing that threatens it exists. Ice types have the best Blizzard, which ruins Rock types that are not the Mt. Moon fossils (and those fossils are not that powerful) and Rock types can’t reliably hit Ice types. Fire types do not resist Ice types. Fighting types that are not Poliwrath suck. Steel does not exist. Guess what four types are buffed and/or introduced starting in Gen 2, and continue to get better as time goes on?

I remember having a long argument with someone who argued vehemently that it was an upgrade from Avalugg whilst I was defending that Avalugg at least ..... is useful and saw some legit uses in OU despite it's bad typing, but H-Avalugg has a typing so irredeemably terrible that it cannot even begin to make use of it's gargantuan physical bulk and great utility movepool like Avalugg does and it's offensive side is so flawed that it does not even begin to matter to compensate, notably because it's so slow it necessitates either TR (extremely niche and risky strat and if you do use it H-avalugg is close to the bottom of who you'd pick) or take a hit first and in that case Mountain Gale is useless and you'd rather run Avalan he which Avalugg already does quite well. And if you HAVE to use your Terra for your mon to be viable, it's not a good sign, but even then why would you wasted your Terra on H-Avalugg? Why use it on it when there are 2000 different better uses for it. I'm sorry, I should stop now but this mon makes me angry with how poorly designed it is, I legit wish it were a pure Rock type, still bad but at least it would have been better and would have suffered less from the comparison with Avalugg (and probably would indeed have been better)

And that required minmaxed defenses, an ability that confers an extra type resistance and the ability to not be statused, and the best way to wear a Pokémon down over time in Salt Cure that also punishes Steel and Water switch-ins. This all means nothing - Garganacl is the exception that proves the rule. Ice types are even harder because that would require nice speed, just as much minmaxing, the ability Filter, and some other secret sauce that allows it to differentiate itself from a normal defensive Pokémon.
