And, there is another unsung benefit for the revolver user: Your brass can be right there, in your hand or on the table in front of you. The cases need not be lost; they’re easily retrieved and available for another reload and another swipe at glory.

I'm also an auto guy, and believe that, net, autos are the superior weapon. However, there are a number extremely valid, useful advantages inherent to revolvers that one dismisses at their own peril. It's for this reason I own a couple revolvers and intend on getting at least a few more. The handgun I keep ready at all times is a revolver.

But a Dodge Hemi is awesome to drive even though a new Honda Accord is probably fast, handles better, has air conditioning, auto locks/windows and cruise control and uses 1/4 as much gas and only need service once a year and that’s just for oil changes. Still want that Hemi though. 😳

I used revolvers as tools, but like you, they never excited me. What changed it for me was buying an $80 nagant to practice tuning and polishing a revolver action (no loss if I wrecked it)

The correct answer to the revolver question is clearly the OG Reichsrevolver. While your opponent mucks about attempting to reload, you just club them to death. Their fancy gate & ejector technology can fail them, but your trusty stick is easily maintainable or replaceable in the field.

I thought it was the opposite? Revolvers are robust and require far less maintenance over fancy automatics.

After leaving military service in the 40s, my grandpa opted to keep this revolver (1929) for protection and still has it to this day. His is a nice piece.

Only kinda. The Swiss method of arms issuance means that as long as someone who got issued the weapon is still in service as long as the soldier doesn't upgrade it, and they're in the reserves for until old age.

Othias going full-on 19th century fudd had me in tears from laughing.

I have one, and I’m surprised how different it is to this review. The double-action isn’t that bad, and it hits a very definite cliff before the hammer falls. The trigger isn’t nearly as heavy as a nagant. Much lighter than my chamelot delvigne but heavier than my webley. However the cylinder on mine occasionally slips backwards while operating the abadie if I don’t release the trigger quickly enough. Not sure if that’s normal. I guess every specimen has different quirks and manufacturing wasn’t 100% uniform. Mine is in the pre-5000 serial number range, if that makes any difference.

I'd be interested to hear about your Webley. I'm quite a fan of Webley revolvers, so any additional information and first-hand experience is always good. Obviously hopefully, I've owned and shot a few models.

@@brianknezevich9894 Mine’s a Mark I. Very compact for a big-bore military revolver, and very smooth action. My only complaint would be the odd grip angle. The later webleys solved this problem, but they were also much uglier in my opinion.

My 1882 has a great double action, a little heavy by modern standards but smooth and easy to shoot. Its also one of my most accurate handguns. I have to say my shooting experience with my particular example is vastly different then Othias and Mays.

@@JChan880 I also prefer the asthetic of the earlier grips, while I'm much more comfortable with more modern ones to shoot... And that might just be experience - it's always easier and usually cheaper to spend trigger time on a modern gun.

It's unusual to see Mae NOT smile at the end of the shooting sequence. I always look forward to seeing that, and the lack of her smile tells me all I need to know!

The commentary at the end of this video where Mae and Othias are talking about whether or not they like The Gun is the best part of the entire video. And that’s saying a lot, because the entire video is good!

I have a pair of these, one is an 1890s made one with the black hard rubber grips and the second is closer to the one on the presentation made in the 20s with the wood grips. The older one is much smoother and lighter in double action than the newer one which is stiffer like yours. Maybe the springs got stiffer 20-30 years down the production line.

I love the analysis and the deep dive into the works. One of the advantages of a smaller caliber handgun is the ability to deliver multiple rounds on target rapidly. The 1882 fails on that. If I was forced to choose I'd go with the 1878. Not because of the size of the round, and I think it would be a complete nightmare to reload in combat, but the first six rounds on target under stress is vital. So I'm with Othais.

Favorite part of the channel, the effort of music selection to pair with the shooting footage.

The 82 is you, the 78 is the guy she told you not to worry about.

I do own a 1878,1882 and 1929. The 1882 has a horrendous heavy grindy double action. It is surprising Mae had them on target even at that distance. The 1882 is worse than the 1929. My 1878 has a quite pleasant double action.

Really slick little pistol. Gorgeous.

I agree with Othias, I would want the bigger round. I work as armed security in Houston, TX and on those posts that require revolvers, the company wants me to carry a .38 and I refuse and carry instead my 45 acp 325pd. If all I get is six, then I want 6 BIG rounds. Kudos to Mae for being able to hit at all with that nasty double action pull.

I hear Othais’ argument somewhat differently. I don’t think it’s about the big(ger) round per se, but about the terrible trigger/action on the smaller calibre gun, which caused the far worse grouping for Mae. He specifically said that his concern would be to get the first couple of shots well placed on-target, which was difficult in a stressed situation with the later gun, because you’ll likely use the horrible double action.

Paul has gone over how much time it takes him to do the meat targets and it's pretty significant. Mae and othais work something like 60 hours a week I don't think they can squeeze in another several hours. Now is the part where I tell you if you aren't already a patron, go do that. If you want them to do more things that cost money and time, that's the best way to make it happen.

Glad to see papa Othais is back to mount 😏 up on another revolver. I remember using one of these to fight the Zulus while I was stationed in Cairo. It had a tendency to slam fire all six rounds at once, which would frighten both the shooter and the Zulu he was aiming at. Good work!

Forget Gold and Silver the real money is in Brass. Ammo is almost more expensive per weight than Gold!.

I have one of these with a serial of P2xxx and my double action is not as heavy as you guys described. Fantastic pistol but almost impossible to get proper ammo for it in canada though

Try .32 S&W Long. My buddy has one and I hit up the boys at Reliable Gun for ammo, and they always have it. (Don’t make me regret telling you by buying up all their stock 🤣).

@@john-paulsilke893 lol dont worry, i got around 300 rounds of 32 at a gun show a few weeks back. I seen that the shooting center has 7.5 reloads but they are 125$ for 50. ill stick to my 20$ 32 shorts lol

@@k54g it’s not a volume shooter anyways. 300rds should get you a few months maybe even a year or so if you have another pistol. Fun farm gun plus woodlands shooter, but may attract a Karen so I’d stay away from people when plinking.

I did indeed go look at it but I should mention that it is actually a Husqvarna made one. It's now on Layaway. Today I picked up a Brazilian contract S&W 1917, no small thanks to you guys and your amazing knowledge on these.

I like Othias and Mae and guns are pretty cool too I guess

This weapon lived way beyond its years…

Here's something for Mae. There have been numerous studies done on tank on tank battles and how they resolve (the biggest are the U.S. and Israeli studies) to which tank will be the winner. It turns out who shoots first normally wins the fight. (what's interesting is this applies to all facets of shell shooting, be that artillery or tanks or handguns) So Mathias is correct. Who gets off the first shots will win the fight. Even if that first shot doesn't hit anyone it still causes a panic where the shooter gets a better more accurate shot on target.

I'm swiss and my grandfather has one of these and an original Luger adopted by the swiss army. I hope I'll get these some day to keep tgem in the family...I'd never sell these since these are in the family since my great grandfather..

I am so validated seeing someone else have trouble with that DA. My brother has one, the DA is SO HEAVY. I am better with a Russian Nagant, and I never knew I would ever say that.

Well I want one. This is the kind of revolver the reproduction companies should be making, it would make a great little plinker in a more accessible black powder caliber.

If one is Swiss, and one has been so unfortunate as to have been issued this particular Swiss Revolver model of 1882, does one, perhaps, consider the option of staying in an uphill position where there are plenty of rocks available? 1. This is definitely one of the most beautiful revolvers out there. 2. Those grooves on the gripe are silent killers. 3 Can you do a video explaining the different finishes guns have? For example, why does this revolver and the Swiss Luger have two distinct finishes?

If so, the French figure may better be swapped for the period appropriate Airfix or Pegasus sets, as a Kepi wearing French soldier from 1914 would not be in combat with a MP18 carrying stahlhelm wearing German soldier from 1918... :p (p.s. your show is awesome)

How big of a loop? Big enough to fit over the handle bar in a pinch??? If you needed to get out of dodge fast be a lot better than getting it tangled up on a lanyard in your spokes. I'd bet you money it was for that
