My Grandfather was in the Danish army in 1949 and he told me, the entiry platoon was still using Krag-Jørgensen Carbines (no long rifles). He told me that the only time he saw somone with a diffrint rifle was the police that used captured k98 While they trained toghether.

@@AvaniDK I have done my rounds. Danes are most balanced people in world. They are very polite, rational people. Kinda like north Germans after one pint of beer, but 24/7.
Not just feeding the algorithm, also liking the show.
My Grandfather served in the Danish Army in Southern Jutland on 9 April 1940 during the German invasion. "Luckily" for him and his company, they had been forbidden to prepare defensive positions or even hold maneuvers near the border, so they were completely blind. They were a motorized company and apparently they got lost, so the commanding officer halted the column, ordered a five minute break to smoke, while he went across the road to ask a farmer for directions. It would just so happen that the farmer's pretty daughter was out, too, so 150 soldiers left the trucks and crossed the road to admire the female specimen, leaving all their weapons in the trucks. Of course, when they were smoking away, the vanguard of the German advance column showed up, a pair of motorcycles with Mg34 sidecars. They just halted, charged their guns and smiled. Not one moved and an entire company was captured without a single shot fired. Which was wise. Had one been stupid and done the Hollywood thing and made a dash for the weapons, the casualty list for that day would have been many times bigger. So, "luckily" for my grandfather, the neutrality policy meant he never got to fight that day, he would do that later in the resistance. But he carried a Krag Jørgensen carbine during his service. Like this one. Thank you for showing it.
Repair headphones or watch favorite youtube channel. Headphones will wait another hour to learn about Krag carbines.

Every night ! Big O’s soothing voice is what I need for nite nite , oh yea the info is great too!!
I don't suppose the Norwegian M1912 carbine maybe in the future? That particular iteration of the Krag ticks all of the aesthetic boxes for me, emphasis on ALL THE BOXES. If I ever encountered one for sale I would be hard pressed to leave it.
Finally done baking the day's bread, time to settle in for some wholesome historical content.
It feels like I fell off Rifle Mountain and hit every Krag on the way down.
The krag rifles are just so aesthetically pleasing
C&Rsenal coming in with a video to watch while I try to get my daughter back to sleep. Its 3 am... we want to sleep soooooo bad
8:17 Damn, those Danes are giving the Japanese a run for their money on bayonets.
"This little carbine is going to require a bit of explanation, everything in this show does..." >Looks at this positively *brief* 35 minute runtime That's one way to put it, yes.
This series is making me fall in love with Krag's. I love it.
So Mae gave the long rifle the softest of yeses, while Othais fell in love with the carbine. I wonder what kind of review the Norwegian 1912 is going to get - it's shorter and handier than the long rifle, has a thicker barrel than the 1894, nice tangent sights, a turned-down bolt handle, a full-length stock with finger grooves and a semi-pistol grip, its loading gate opens to the side and it's chambered for the lovely 6.5x55 rimless... Plus it has the signature buttery smoothness of a Krag action. Really looking forward to that episode.
this is by far the best looking carbine I've seen on the show so far. its like a mauser-krag hybrid.
There was a 1895 30-40 Krag Carbine at the local gun shop for $300. And the day I had the money to buy it, the gentleman on the phone said "I'm terribly sorry but, we sold it two hours ago." That hurt the soul.
Thanks for the great videos on the Danish Krag's , history and shooting :)
History content like this is seriously underrrated
After WW2 the Krag-Jørgensen M/1889/10 was more or less only used by the Kongelige Livgarde (Royal Household Lifeguard). Most Krag-Jørgensen pattern rifles & carbines had been stolen by the Germans for second line duties of all sorts. To get going again Danmark used Gevær M/45/96S (Swedish Mauser 6.5x55mm) brought home by the Danish Brigade in Sweden and Gevær M/45E (Lee Enfield No4 .303 British) either dropped by parachute during the war or bought from Britsh surplus. All was replaced by Gevær M/50 (M1 Garand) when we joined NATO as one of the original members. Danmark did not adobt another carbine before we got the Karabin M/96 (Diemarco (Colt Canada) C7) - basically an M4.
I had to triple check to be sure this was a new video it came so early in the day! Also this is me interacting with this video KZread

OK, Othais, I get that you wouldn't defile an old Krag, but what about a sporterized Krag?? Get one and build the Krag of your dreams! Eh? EH?? Love the show. You and Mae rawk. Cheers! Keep up the good work!
Man, I love Krags. All those weird solutions and little features that arise in the gap between when people discover they can do something and when they figure out the optimal way of doing it always combine together into the neatest things.

Sweet rifles! I have a weakness for the US Krag carbines ( nothing competes with my appreciation of Winchester 1895 carbines, though!). I can’t help but speculate that the Krag magazine would have been a valuable feature for scoped military rifles, particularly if used with chargers. No more concerns with obstructing the charger or clip guides by center line of the scope, and easy topping off the magazine with individual loose rounds as the sharpshooter or sniper plies his trade.
The betrayals! The drama! Othais and his love for the Krag Carbine finally revealed! Mae sorta shocked but not too surprised! Film at 11!
Oh, my. I thought it was comical that the guards in Hogan's Heros carried Krags. And now Othias says the Germans confiscated them for second line duty - like a POW camp?
@sidekickbob7227
3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Second line duty forces often used non German weapons. There's even pictures of German SS guard troops using Mosin-Nagants rifle in theire slavecamps in Poland. In Norway they often equipped the guards with the M94 Krag Jørgensen. It all makes sense, since you could arm a lot of more soldiers, and still avoid the logistic problem of having different sort of ammunition at the front. All they had to do, was to give some rounds with each rifle, and the guard could fullfill his duty for years...

Nice - the song is a Danish children's song - Først Den Ene Vej. In English, I think it's called First One Way, or The Shoemaker's Dance. The lyrics in translated to English is: First one way And then the other way And clack and clack and the shoemaker's boy The shoemaker's boy is a pig For he's drinking brandy Nice little innocent children's song, eh?

I love how you talked about modifying it back in the day to make it better. @@stalker1983 Being poor is relative thing indeed. Danes history is little like Dutch. Merchantile minded regional superpowers in times past. Rise of nationalism in bigger countries overcame eventually. Among Fennoscandian countries Danes were/are exceedingly wealthy. All the butter and bacon imaginable, compared to rocky soil only good for rye here in north. And one cow which was dry 9 months of year.
