History of The Wizard Police: Aurors - Harry Potter Explained

Ойын-сауық

Hey everyone, welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we’re diving in to the history of AURORS. How do you stop a Dark Wizard? Especially when you don’t have the likes of Harry Potter and his friends to help you out.
Well, for much of wizarding history, the defense of the magical world fell to a small handful of powerful ministry workers tasked with one simple goal: the enforcement of wizarding laws.
Those responsible were known as Aurors… or dark wizard hunters…, and even though you’ve probably heard about them plenty of times, you’ve likely never heard their full history.
And that’s the tale we’ll tell today.

With Hermione as the current Minister of Magic and Harry as the Director, I’d like to think the UK is at its most peaceful time that there has ever been… unless of course Ron constantly being overshadowed is his villain origin story

I absolutely love that it’s canon that Harry became head of the Auror office and basically said “anyone who was ever my friend gets to be an Auror if they want, idc”. Sorting Hat was right.

Interesting how dangerous "Aurors" can be. Its very vulnerably actually. Even when they believe they are doing good and following orders. (Same as our soldiers/police) It depends hard on the Ministry and the people controlling it. As example the Ministry vs Harry Potter and they would have used force even deadly force against Dumbledore when Fudge wanted him arrested if commanded so, we can all agree those orders would not have been just or good, but they would have followed it believing they are doing good with just actions.

Another example was in Secrets of Dumbledore, when Theseus Scamander went through a character arc and became a more open minded person who didn't follow every order from the ministry. Thus, allowing the rest of the characters to progress easier and more efficiently against Grindelwald.

Aurors can't use explicit deadly force. The only explicit deadly force is the killing curse(naturally) and the unforgivables were only allowed during the rise of the two Dark Lords in recent memory. Would they have used all of the rest of their arsenal? Sure, but the rest of the spell library has weaknesses and ways to block them. You have to keep in mind that British Wizard society is still British, meaning that the use of force standards are similar. Even if Dumbledore attempted to start throwing out killing curses, it would have been just as illegal for an auror to throw one back.

What I love about HP is how its still a growing society. They have their government and laws but its still a highly classist society with openly repressed and enslaved creatures. And like many "good" doers they still participated in that repression in certain ways because its what was acceptable. I don't blame some for viewing the aurors the same as any dark wizard

I can see them trying to make the relationship with the other species better, afther all Harry is quite firendly towards them like houseelfs and centaurs, and he isent someone that would push away a werwolf for no reasons.

While being an Auror seems cool in a resume, I don't think it's that great of a job for a wizard/witch. You must be able to follow orders, even when you don't agree with them. (Imagine if the Ministry is as corrupted as during Fudge's mandate) That's a red flag for me. Of course, it's also very risky since you're constantly hunting dark wizards/witches. So, it's not 100% sure you will grow old. That said, it's still very selective and must be a vocation. Not something to do for clout. Though, I think Neville and Ron understood that it wasn't for them despite being powerful wizards. (They did the job for a couple of years before moving on to healthier jobs) If I was a wizard, I would probably be a freelance curse-breaker. Choosing my own contracts at Gringotts, taking vacations whenever i want, paid well, and from time to time fighting dark wizards responsible for cursed places.

I hate that Harry became an Auror. First off, he knew he was the master of the Elder Wand and wanted to bring it to his grave, to break it's power, and he knew just how fickle the wand could be. So he pursued a career where he was in constant danger of being disarmed/taken out? By the very ministry that had persecuted him for years? Nah, I don't buy it. Harry had won his peace and quiet; he should have sought a far less dangerous career, probably as a professor at Hogwarts, his one true home.
