History of the Russian America 🇷🇺 | every year

The colonization of Alaska is a very interesting event, since this was one of the few Russian colonies. Unfortunately or fortunately, Alaska was eventually sold to the states, since at that moment the United States was an ally of Russia.
If you wanna learn more about Russian America you must go to the Russian Wikipedia because there's a lot more information on that topic.

Hey, here's an interesting story related to the colonisation! :3 "Several Aleuts traded in Alaska and one day their ship was cast ashore in California. They wanted to get to Fort Ross, but they were caught by the Spaniards. The Spaniards tortured them and told them to recognize the Catholic faith, but one Aleut did not want to recognize anything other than Orthodoxy. Then the Spaniards cut off his heels and continued to torture him, but he clenched his teeth and through tears remained true to his faith. The Spaniards tortured him to death." This Aleut became very famous, albeit posthumously. He is considered an Orthodox martyr. And many Orthodox residents of Alaska know him, honor and respect him.

It was only sold 156 years ago... This is a very small figure, especially within the framework of history.

I like that the modern state of Alaska, despite the fact that Russia is an enemy to the United States, still retains its past. This deserves praise, unlike the Europeans, who demolish Soviet monuments and try in every possible way to renounce their past.

question, why is yakutat re-introduced after its burning in 1805? Wikipedia says that it was never colonized again when RAC still held Alaska

The fact is that the Russian government was not interested in the development of America, as in other overseas lands. While the Russian-American Company took the land, the emperor distributed them. And the fact is that the company could only be engaged in fur trade, and the supreme government of Russia should have been engaged in the economic development of America (Like California), which for some reason it did not want to do in any case. The point here is the cowardice of the government not to spoil relations with Western colleagues and all sorts of attachment to them, which was a betrayal to the Russian people. The government of the company asked the supreme government to send free peasants to the economic settlement of California at the expense of the company, but for some reason the supreme government refused, although it cost nothing to it. Couldn't Russia have populated California, like the British did Australia? Gold was discovered in Alaska during the construction of the telegraph line, and the government of the Russian-American Company asked the emperor to mine it, but the emperor was not interested in this. For me personally, it would be better if the British occupied Alaska, than to give it away for a song, giving up any claims to it But the video is quite detailed and good. I wish the success to the channel!

Hmm, interesting. I didn't know that the Russians found the gold. But I am very interested in this topic a lot because I myself am Russian, and we had few colonies, so this is a very unique topic for my country :) Thank you for your kind wishes! I will definitely try to develop my channel and improve my maps :3

@@kutwor5506 Кстати скажу вам по тайне я тоже Русский. Советую вам почитать книгу "Русские землепроходцы - слава и гордость Руси" там есть много мало известной информации по Русской Америке. Gold has been found, although not in large quantities. In addition, I wanted to say that the furs were significantly exterminated as early as at 1820s and, fearing the complete extermination of sea otters, the company government closely monitored to their population. From the 1820s until the sale, the sea otter population was stable. Financially, the Russian American Company received 1,000,000 rubles a year in 1860. but due to administrative and economic sabotage by the enemies of Russia in the supreme government, in 1862 the Russian American Company brought losses in the amount of 378,000 rubles, which became a pretext for its sale to anyone, either to the British or Americans or even to Laitenstein. Although this is little known, it is a fact. Some people in the government needed to give Russian America to anyone. These were the same people who refused to take part of Sumatra into Russian citizenship, although the local prince asked for this. These were the same people who refused Miklouho-Maclay's proposal to take New Guinea and Micronesia into Russia, calling it "economically inexpedient" and later these same territories were taken by Germany for some reason without considering it so. These same people refused after the death of Peter the Great to the capture of Madagascar, although the expedition had already been prepared by Peter the Great for this. If Peter the Great had lived a little longer, this expedition would have been sent. P.S. Subscribed
