Love my TJs, owned four. Got an 18 JK. Missed my TJs. I had go hunt one down. I love the old style, short wheelbase look. Small torquey Jeep. So fun. New Jeeps are so big and more SUV'ish. Plus so much more electronics to get bugs.

Damn, jamming up your comments with my rambling, haha! One "military" jeep I saw recently was a factory made JL that was a WWII "tribute". It was done up with MB/GPW style elements, steel wheels, NDT tires, etc. Looked absolutely badass.

I'm 62, always wanted a jeep from itty bitty. First was an 08 JK bought used in 2011. Next was a 15 JK Willy's that I ordered. I now own an 03 tj with the 4.0 and 5 speed that I truly love. Reminds me of my 69 bug convertible. Trim package this and decals and accouterments that, I simply love my old school tj.

I loved your video. As far as my Jeep history goes, I have had a 49 Flat Fender Willys, 54 M38A1 (Previous owner stuck a 327 CI Chevy V8 in it), 56 Willys, 84 CJ-7, 85 XJ, 87 YJ 4-cyl stick, 87 YJ 6-cyl stick, 93 YJ Sahara Stick (Turning it into a Jurassic Park Jeep), 2000 TJ (project jeep, hasnt run yet), 2009 JK auto, 2015 JKU auto and finally a 2016 JK Willys stick. At this time I have the 84 CJ-7, the 2000 TJ, the 93 YJ, the 2009 JK and the 2016 JK. I loved the convenience of the 2015 JKU but it seemed too big for my taste. The 54 M38A1 was an insane blast. I owned it in my early 20s (In Dallas in the early 90s, my first Jeep) and with the 5.38 gears in the axles there was nothing that could take me off the line. I trashed Z-28s and Mustang GTs all day long. Had to rebuild the transmission because I stripped out 2nd gear. It was insane. Loved the 87 YJ with the 6-cyl. Had to replace the BA-10 transmission when it went out at 75K miles. Put an NV3550 from a wrecked 91 TJ in it. Ran it for years and loved it. If I could keep the ones I wanted, I would get the 54 M38A1 back to keep with my 93 YJ and my 2016 JK. They are my favorites.

Gives me everything I need to do the off roading I do, haul some stuff, fit the family in, etc. It also has the comfort things that I need, such as bluetooth, cruise control, AC and power locks/windows, without all the new tech crap that raises the prices a couple grand.

Admittedly biased, I like the 2 door Unlimited Rubicon best of all the Jeep variants. Interestingly it's within an inch or so of every dimension of the old CJ6, my favorite of the old CJ series.

Ha. Fabulous run-down on Wranglers. Loved it! No other manufacturer has kept their product true and more desirable with each model change. Most end up watered down or fat. The JL nailed all the improvements and even extended the range with the diesel and V8. Gladiator appeal has gone from warm at introduction to hot as more discover how good it is for overlanding and towing! Jeep continues to rock. Thanks.

You’re very right. Us old CJ guys took a look at the Wrangler YJ and weren’t impressed. That is until I drove a 1988 model and I like it. So this week and after many years I took my CJ7 window sticker to the Jeep dealership and said build me one like my CJ7. I put down $1000 and was told to expect it in two to three months. It’s still a Jeep.

New subscriber because of this video! Thank you for doing it. I just ordered and bought my first ever Jeep, a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I’m building a website, social media pages and separate KZread channel that will all be dedicated to off roading. I’ve been around off roading my entire life but have always done so in trucks. But Jeep’s have always been by far the most capable off roading vehicle straight from the factory and as a result of that, I went out and got my first ever Jeep! My daughter liked mine so much that she also bought a Jeep as well but hers is a Cherokee that is fully loaded. She got a promotion at work and decided to buy a pretty nice Jeep as well. With my Jeep, I will also be using it and any equipment that I buy for volunteering in search and rescue operations and/or search and recovery operations of missing people.

Great video, so much knowledge and coverage of the important parts of the histories done quickly and efficiently. Late model TJ was IMO the absolute sweet spot of the CJ look and feel with the right updates to tech and of course the inline 6. After that, the size and fell just isn’t right, though of course the tech advances and the look modernizes. I’m so glad Ford began pushing Jeep to be better. The Bronco with Sasquatch, 35” tires from the factory and the tech to support them, all under warranty, the ride, the interior, the ride, the ride…now Wrangler has some catching up to do. Competition is good.

I don't think the Moab has lockers like the Rubis, at least they didn't on the JK. Also the JKs got Alpine speakers instead of Infinity speakers. Great video! And one day I will have a Jurassic Park Jeep.

So here is my list of owned jeeps 1955 M38A1 1983 Cj7 Laredo 1995 YJ Rio package 1997 TJ base 2013 JKU (retirement to me) Traded the 13 for a 2015 JKU Sport S for better gears and power options. Traded the 15 for 2018 Sport S for a newer version. Now, looking to get a Rubicon or if lucky. A Rubicon Recon. Great video... I've driven them all, and each has great points and each model has made greater improvements.

Really good video. Thanks. So good we can overlook , as you so funny said... amateur hour... ha ha ha. I own a JK and a Gladiator. While the Gladiator may not work well for some trades, it works well for me the able home owner. Tows the trailer to get the new JD lawn tractor. Hauls a bunch of mulch. Brought home a new cabinet from the store. Much would be less than ideal in my wrangler. She could do it... but less comfort. And she is a ton of fun top and doors off. As for the 4xE. Yup think it is odd, but it would work well for me. I HAVE to get to work, hence Jeeps. Snow is not an excuse. I do however commute. Drive a bit to the train and ride the train to work. If I park and charge a 4xE at the station(free) I can drive home and back to the station with NO GAS. Huge savings at $3/gal. Being a hybrid, I could still take it on vacation to Florida. I agree not ideal for everyone, but it could work for many.... kind of like the JKU. Nice video, will have to check out more of yours. Thanks, and be safe.

I run a 2019 JL 2 door Sport S. the 3.6L with the 8 speed tranny gives great mileage and good off road performance. It has the Polar Package which my wife loves here in Montana. I couldn't be more happy with it.

I love my TJ Sahara. Went from France to Russia with it. In winter time. No differential locker. It was fun doing the old school way and cuting woods with a machete when the car would get stuck in the snow. Unfortunately European cities are now starting to ban it. Got a 4xe Rubicon coming tomorrow. I fear the confort update 😉

I own two iconic vehicles. I have a 2019 Wrangler JL Sport S with all the upgrades that a Sahara has, except leather. Only because I don't like the JLU. I also have a 2014 Harley Davidson Limited CVO. I live in Idaho and my little JL does just fine at water fording, rock crawling, and getting me up mountains. The Harley of course satisfies the need for an open road on relatively untraveled highways.

I remember back in 07 when the JK came out and I absolutely hated the 4 door. At the time I had a 97 tj and being a hardcore jeep purist guy.... eventually I loved them enough to buy a 2011 JK rubicon unlimited. Which I traded in on a 2020 gladiator this past November. I love the wranglers and gladiator family but all in all, I still love my old ass 98 xj more than all of them haha. My 3 wranglers on an island would be a 95 Sahara, a 2017 rubicon hard rock, and a 2020 Moab

Did I find a Long wheelbase YJ? Hi, thanks for this awesome video, I came across it as I’m doing a little research due to being interested in buying a classic Jeep. CJ or YJ could both be an option. I’m reaching out to in a hope to learn from someone’s experience. At the beginning of this video a long wheelbase YJ is mentioned and I think I found one for sale. I live in Israel witch would make it possible one came over from Egypt (Israel and Egypt share a boarder). The listing described a “1989 CJ8 scrambler” But as far as my limited knowledge goes I understand that the CJ8 is just a long wheelbase CJ7 made between 1981-1986. The Jeep in question definitely has a long wheelbase, it definitely seems to be a 1989 year model, and it also has square headlights. I’d be interested in someone’s opinion. If anyone is interested I can send a few pictures. Thanks David.

Good job. But you missed one that I was thinking of 1990 to 94 Jeep YJ Renegade model I thought it was a hideous looking Jeep. It had plastic molding on the outside that seemed to trap a lot of water and rust. I have owned a 89 YJ I currently own a 2005 TJ Unlimited.

J8: drool. Reminds me of the old M715, the 5/4 military version of the Jeep Gladiator pickup. Well, KIA actually still makes a new coil sprung TDi version of this for the ROK military. I heard there are a few in the States.
