History of the Fifth Avenue Apple Store
Ғылым және технология
Apple has a reputation of building some of the coolest, most futuristic retail stores in the world. This location in Dubai features carbon fiber Solar Wings that automatically open and close to cool down the space. This store in Milan features a stunning water fountain display that welcomes visitors as they enter. And one of my favorite locations is this one in Shanghai which utilizes patented curved glass panels to achieve its unique cylindrical shape. But the most iconic Apple Store in the world is in New York City on Fifth Avenue. Sitting just a few steps from central park, it’s likely one of the highest traffic stores in the country. And you can get an understanding of just how important this store is to Apple by considering its history. Which is exactly what we’re going to cover.

I used to live on LI and I always had a terrible experience at apple stores. The staff at the closest one to me always seemed to ignore me and never actually want to serve me. They also would make snid remakrs that made me feel small. One day I was in Manhattan and I had a bit of extra cash so I decided to buy my brother a macbook pro and final cut pro because he seriously wants to make movies (and also because he has always spent his extra cash buying me things). This store CLEARLY had way more customers than the one nesr me and yet the attitude of the staff was totally different. They were always friendly. I never felt belittled. I never felt ignored. I never felt rushed. It was such a pleasent shopping experience that I began going to the 5th ave store exclusively whenever I needed anything Mac related. I didn't care if it was way out of the way. The customer experience was worth it.

@rubix187

Eric Flores it’s a matter of the amount of traffic that the store sees and resources on hand. Here’s an example. I go in and complain about my phone overheating and randomly shutting off. Technicians go to the back, run diagnostics and return to tell me they see nothing wrong. I stick to my story and show I’m visibly upset. A small Verizon store would likely tell me to come back if the problem persists. The larger Apple store would more likely give me a replacement on the spot. It’s all business. I urge you to try it for yourself.
@Nickgowans
4 жыл бұрын
Don't you mean "this store is where your money goes" when you can't replace a simple component because apple make it impossible to repair your own devices and have to buy a whole new phone. Or this is where your money goes when a simple connector fails in your MacBook and the "experts" in store say they have to sell you a whole new motherboard but then you go 20 minute away and a guy in the basement repairs it for free because he's a decent human being and not a thief?
Why didnt they just make a giant glass apple instead

Apple literally made their stores all glass so no one can make windows jokes.
as a person who grew up going to FAO Schwarz during fall and winter holiday i remember when the apple store didnt exist there and it was still being built. glad i was there before their multiple fixes and renovations before it closed up and later moved locations. as far as i can remember FAO has been around a pretty long time in that particular 4 block radius. ironically ive only been in that apple store once, probably explains why ive only owned a ipod touch gen 2 and never had a smartphone till i was in my second year of highschool. im not old but im really amazed at how it really feels like things have always been there or its really new despite you remembering it so fondly or differently until its documented.
I hope someday Louis Rossmann could have store next to the 5th avenue Apple store, so geniuses could point the customers straight to the Rossmann store when Apple cannot fix their products.

I was right out of college in 1979 when I snagged a job with GM (then the worlds largest company) as a financial analyst. I worked on the 21st floor of the GM building which was GM’S financial center. The space that is now an Apple store was a restaurant called the Auto Pub. It has an automotive theme with bodies of race cars attached to the ceiling. It served casual food much like a Friday’s restaurant of today.
