Siegfried's quite a tragic character. Kills his father unknowingly then when he realises what he did he can't handle it and his inability to accept it causes him to seek out Soul Edge and causes him to become the monster Nightmare.

The hero gone bad stereo type is very common in fighting games, but I often felt Siegfried/Knightmare was possibly one of the most well written. It's not an evil power that's inherited, but one that was obtained through searching for a solution to ones cause. Siegfried had honorable goals, but he didn't realize the very tools he would use would actually do more harm then good. The hero acknowledges his mistakes, and tries to redeem himself, not after beating himself up about it though. And th is is why he's one of my more favorite characters in gaming.

Silverware Warrior he was never hero, guy killed his own father for Christ sake due to being with a gang of degenerates. It wasn’t until after his release of soul edge did he try to atone for what he did.

@Unknowing Reaper Siegfried is what most people would call an antihero as he starts out young and naive, becomes a tool of evil and then finally fights for his redemption. Anti heroes are more realistic, because nobody is perfect. We can all feel more in common with an antihero because he or she makes mistakes like we humans do. He is not without his faults and many people want him dead, but that's what makes his story interesting.

Taki for me. I always tend to go for the fast and flexible type of fighters in fighting games (which most of the time is women). Plus she just REALLY looks 🔥 in that super skin tight outfit 😍

Siegried, A Rising Hero who turns himself into the villain. Truly, this idea should prove to be something special, especially if used correctly.

Heishiro Mitsurugi and Siegfried/Nightmare and Cervantes are my top 3 characters. Siegfried at the age of 16, 5ft 6 was carrying the heaviest weapon in soul blade as well as wearing heavy armour suit. Made that shit look easy. TRUE WARRIOR!!

Yep! I remember the narrator describing Mitsurugi as a 'Skilled Swordsman'. Easily the best fighter in the game and even without his weapon he's extremely skilled. His movement, body positioning to launch attacvks and also predict his opponents moves; hsi overall switch from defence to attack is incredible.

@@DEEDUBZ Mitsurugi is a perfectly balanced fighter, this makes him solid mid tier, with essentially no good/bad matchups. Everyone should become good with Mitsurugi before they find their main. It'll mean slower progression in the short term, but its a valuable long term investment.

Siegfried was always my favorite character in Soul Calibur and his fighting style is surprisingly easy to use despite the size of his enormous sword.

@@TheMan-je5xq Nightmare is a stop/start kind of fighter, whereas siegfried is a very flowy fighter. In most matchups, sieg feels faster because of this, however in a Nightmare vs Siegfried scenario, Nightmare beats him to the punch with multiple of his attacks. Nightmare has better acceleration, Siegfried has a higher top speed, if you will.

I started the series at Soulcalibur 2, and I have been a Seigfried main ever since. I grew to appreciate what I could glean of his story, but thank you for this video it connected a lot of pieces for me.

This is a great series, keep up the good work! Tough to find Soul Caliber info based on the character lore.

Siegfried is an excellent example of a character who seeks redemption and goes from villian to hero unlike Patroklos! You should do the history of Soul Edge (Inferno) and of Soul Calibur (Elysium) and also Hilde. :D

ryan morfei the latest tales anime which focus on Zestiria and Beseria doesn't bring the characters together either for obvious reasons Beseria takes in 1000 years before Zestiria. A potential anime Soul Calibur will most likely have 5 main factions which are #1 Kilik, Xianghua, and Maxi. #2 Yung Soeng,Soeng-Mina, and Talim for the group with Cassandra, Taki, Misturugi, and other side main characters kinda involved with their story. #3 Nightmare, Tara, Astroth, Lizard Man, Ivy, Zalsamel, Voldo and even Cervantes will star in that faction/part. 4th will be possibly Groh and his gang. And finally #5 the main protagonist group while Kilik is indeed the 2nd main protagonist of the series this group will star Siegfried and Hilde.

I HOPE they bring Zasalamel back.

Really glad you're gonna be covering the Soul Blade/Soul Calibur series! I started with Soul Blade on the PS1 when I was about 5 and Siegfried's ending scared the ever living piss out of me! It still sends me funny thinking about it now; just the music and his screams as Soul Edge consumes him was terrifying to me.

Soul Calibur 5 was SO bad that Soul Calibur basically got rebooted.

Soul Calibur VI is a retelling of the story, and it actually has a lot of callbacks to the original plot points and such. Yous should check that out too

I played soul caliber 6. But its feel like more of a filler from soul caliber 1 to 2 instead of a reboot. True the whole story of all the characters. Also, i always respect seigfied story in this game with all the others. Hope soul caliber 7 live up the high.

Some time ago I got a copy Broken Destiny for the PSP and after some time with that game Siegfried became my best character with Nightmare my favorite character. Now that I have Soul Calibur VI I've put so much time in Nightmare I'm afraid I lost my touch with him. It was to the point I'd give my nephews, who are better players than I, a VERY hard time if I played as Siegfried.

Ivy. Her story is more compelling. Also great video. I love this series.

Just clearing up a few things to what my memory tells me about SC canon. I don't think any of the in-game profiles said that SC1 Nightmare lost to Xianghua, but it is said in Kilik's SC2 profile that he defeated Nightmare during SC1, but "couldn't destroy Soul Edge". This perhaps implies Kilik lost to Inferno afterwards, and Xianghua beats Inferno. Though it is likely both Kilik and Xianghua fought Nightmare together though, which makes sense considering the situation. I'm assuming SC6 will clear this up though. Also, I'm pretty sure you got the whole Abyss SC3 events wrong (even though I do like the idea of Siegfried and SC3 Nightmare teaming up to kick Abyss' butt). Tbh, SC4's profiles were never clear if Zasalamel even became Abyss in canon; it only mentions that Siegfried and Nightmare were both ripped apart by the maelstrom created by the swords' clash, and Zas saw the future and changed his mind about ending his own immortality. However, I'm hoping someone can prove me wrong on this because the idea of Siegfried and Nightmare teaming up to kick Abyss' butt before their big sword clash in SC3's finale sounds awesome.

Well, Soul Calibur 6 cleared the events of the first SC. Kilik defeated Nightmare and Xianghua and Kilik indeed teamed up to defeat Inferno. About Zas and Abyss, yes, it is canon that Zas became Abyss and Siegfried and Nightmare together defeated him, reverting Abyss back to Zasalamel.
