Bismillaah- I am an Omega man that pledged at Eta Gamma chapter at Central State University, and am now brother of the Pi Nu graduate chapter in Homestead, Florida. After pledging Omega Psi Phi in the turbulent 1960's, the Black Power and Human rights Era, I took the lessons learned pledging Omega to help me survive the ups and downs, the vicissitudes and happinesses of life in an America that still owes my ancestors and myself reparations resulting from the deliberate harm done to my ancestors and myself because of my ethnicity. OMEGA ENDOWED ME WITH THE TOOLS NEEDED TO SURVIVE THE VICIOUS UNFAIRNESS, INJUSTICES, ABUSES that I unfortunately came face to face with in my life, and, my faith in the One Lord of the heavens and the earth, and my concentration on the Omega principles have been my keys to survival. I have saved lives of others by reinforcing them with the powerful lines of the poem, Don't Quit! But, today, my graduate chapter brothers of Pi Nu chapter have, generally, kicked me to the curb, though I still love and represent Omega Psi Phi Fraternity while living in medical hardship, while fighting to survive the onslaughts of cancer, epilepsy, pancreatic illness, and being disabled and confined to a whrleelchair. Omega is not reflected in their mistreatment to me, and their abandonment of the duties that our oath taken after crossing the Sands demands that they adhere to. Omega is bigger than any one person, or the misdeeds of any misguided chapter. Omega reminds that there is a heaven, hell, and a final judgment upon leaving this life, and may all Omega men, and not dogs, choose to step to salvation, and respect our royal colors of purple and gold. I have lost line brothers BARI Goggins, Karl Malone, Dr. Carl Parker, Zhukov Camphor, and maybe others, true Omega men to the core, and my life goes on with Omega, and it's Positives living on with me and within me all wrapped together by the cords of purple and gold, Dr. Clemmie Solomon, and Amonte Littlejohn, and Terry Armistead. May we all be guided to live out the charge that friendship, real, genuine, empathetic, and compassionate Friendship is essential to the soul of all sane and strong men, period. Well, I did not come up with a lot of you middle-class African-American Males, I was raised in the hood of SouthEast Los Angeles were the streets raised me. I did not find Omega until I met my probation officer that mentored me to do better with my life. I went to the military and did 22yrs came out and went to college where I met up with my mentor again, who happens to be an Omega Man. I met some Omega's in College but, they were still young trying to find their way but, I expressed interest and got to know them but, I waited till I graduated to fellowship with much older mature Men to take on the challenge of Omega.

Michael Davis. Joseph Green. Kevin Nash. Joseph Snell. Each person (among others) was either severly hospitalized, or KILLED from the pledging process of Omega Psi Phi. Similar stories exist in the other frats also. The ideal of manhood, perseverance, and "brotherhood" all seem inspiring, but pledges are dying, how well does the organization truly exemplify these ideals?

Not sure what you want explained, but you are correct that Beta Chapter of A Phi A was established at Howard in 1908. There were Alpha's in the Administration at Howard who tried to squash the Founder's dream of a National Fraternity. The Founder's risked expulsion by putting up flyer's on campus announcing the existence of Omega Psi Phi before it was officially approved. The Founder's were called in and offered a compromise, that they could continue if they agreed to keep it a local organization. The Founder's refused and the rest is history. If that was accurate, why would the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Beta chapter write your founders, congratulating them, welcoming the establishment of their fraternity? The letter is printed in "The History of Alpha Phi Alpha -A Development in College Life". I've noticed that there is no mention of being welcomed or this letter in the Omega's history book (available in the Spingarn Library on Howard University's campus). Omission, perhaps? Congrats to your founders standing their ground! My objections were not some sophomoric effort to disrespect Omega Psi Phi, but to defend Alpha Phi Alpha. Alpha NEVER had a "brown paper bag" qualifier/disqualifier.....officially or otherwise. To claim otherwise is but a fabrication. A baseless myth. An Urban Legend, if you will. I challenge you to study the pictures of the charter lines of the early chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha to see the widely varying skin complexions. 2-MP-86

I am not greek affliliated, but what I see of Omega is psedo-masculinity. That's a very subjective assertion, but nonetheless it's my observation. All of these fraternity could learn from each other. No one fraternity has a monopoly on scholarship, good-looks nor manhood.
