Medjugorje is a small village in Bosnia and Herzegovina that has become famous for the alleged apparitions of Our Lady, notable for their duration and frequency. It all began in 1981, when six young people, three girls and three boys, claimed to have seen Our Lady. The apparitions continued over the years and attracted pilgrims from all over the world.
The apparitions of Our Lady of Medjugorje led to a fervent religious movement with prayer, penance and peace as central themes. The Catholic Church has maintained a neutral position on the issue, neither confirming nor denying the authenticity of the apparitions. Despite divisions on the issue, Medjugorje continues to be an important pilgrimage site for Catholics and a place of devotion for many people.
