I used to get out of Vivekananda College back gate and walk through these streets to the bus stand near Amrutanjan factory which was across the main road and adjacent to Nageswara Rao park. They were such quaint streets. In the seventies these streets were so quiet I could hear the noise of my shoe heels while I walked. These streets had an elevation, So one walked sort of uphill. Brought back sweet memories. Thank you Sir.

Two information provided. One as you said. Other how Kannadigas came to TN. Still there is Kannadiga street in south TN including Karaikal. So far thought that they came after Tippu defeat and udayaar rise during British.

I downloaded the book South India by Somerset Playne and read about history of Madras Presidency. Very interesting to know about the people caste profession tea and other plantation printing trade& commerce of 19th&20th Century.

Early 60s I have acted in Radio Dramas and in one of the dramas one character used to sell தயிர் in the same way you have mentioned "தயிரோ தயிர்..."... 👍👍👍
