It is nice to see someone from Dogra community & specially a Rajput, to take inetiative in the presentation & promotion of Dogra culture & community. The reason why I am imphasizing on "Rajput" is because, in the formation of "Jammu" as a state, maximum credit goes to the people of Rajput community, as the number of the Rajputs inhabited in this region is highest as compared to others, the reason their involvement & contribution in the formation of this state in every manner was better in comparison to others. Secondly, in your conversation, you have mentioned about the conquests of Dogra General Zorawar Singh, and how he lost to the Tibatan forces, and as per your information, the reason behind the failure of his conquest of Tibet. He could not conquer Tibet, because of shortage in supply of weapons, otherwise, Tibet would have been a part of this state, which is not true. It is better to put in some more effort in your research regarding the issue, so that you can put the things in right perspective in future.

Jaidev and thanks for your valuable comments.The defeat on Tibetan expedition was because of betrayel by both british and Sikhs at lahore.Attaching a piece of an article for reference. What was won on the battlefield, was lost in Lahore. The treacherous conspirators along with the British agents sabotaged the winter supplies. Nepal also betrayed the cause of Kailash's liberation and helped the Chinese and the Tibetans, despite having shaky relations with the Sino-Tibetan alliance! This was the final stab in back against the campaign. Dogra force was more than 500 miles into the enemy territory, supply lines were thin, and were deeply cut short by the palace sabotage. Nepal, which was just 15 kilometres away from the Dogra force refused supplies, and instead, aided the rogue enemy. On December 12th 1841, General achieved the priceless martyrdom. He was covering his army which was regrouping to avoid intense cold, coupled with the rain, snow and lightning. His right hand was hit with musket fire, so he continued fighting with his left hand. Zorawar Singh fought to the very last.

The comments which you have made about the purchase of J&K State are correct to an extent, but it needs to be put in a correct perspective. It is true that J&K was not purchased or bought from somone (British/Sikh's) by paying Rs. 75/- lacks. Actually, the British had asked for a war indemnity of Rs.150/- lacks from the Lahore Durbar after the defeat of Sikh's at the hands of British. As they (Lahore Durbar) were not in a position to pay the indemnity after their defeat in the "Anglo-Sikh" war at that time, Lal Singh, (a close adi of 'Jind Kour', mother of Duleep Singh, the last prince of Sikh empire, who was ruling on behalf of Duleep Singh, as he was very young at that time) had purposed to Rani Jind Kour, to giveaway Jammu State in lieu of war indemnity to the British, as Jammu State was still a part of the Sikh empire. At that time, Gulab Singh, who was the ruler of Jammu hill State, (which Included the Ladakh, Gilgit & Baltistan as it's parts) approached the British to do him a favour, as he had not participated in the Anglo-Sikh war against the British at that time. It is also a fact that, despite Gulab Singh's non participation in that war, Rani Jind Kour had requested him to negotiate with the British on behalf of the Sikh empire after their defeat in the war, which he (Gulab Singh) obliged and settled it with an honorable position for the Sikh empire by paying the indemnity of Rs.150/- lacks to the British. At that time, even British forces were also not in a position to defend the borders in the northern region of the Indian state, as they too had suffered heavily at the hands of Sikh's in that war, so they preferred to settle for Rs.75lacks for hill State of Jammu as war indemnity to be paid by Gulab Singh and simultaneously also, gave control of Kashmir to Gulab Singh in lieu of certain things to be supplied to the British on regular basis annually, which were produced in the Kashmir at that time, as they too believed that northern frontiers will be safe & secure from foreign invasions under the Dogra regime.
