Shipwreck ironically was one of the reasons I ended up joining the Navy. The other was my brother who was a Chief Boatswain Mate.
Shipwreck was always my favorite Joe in the cartoon. I remember having a hard time finding his action figure when I was a kid. I checked the toy section in every store I visited and never could locate him. Then one day I finally found him complete and in excellent condition at a garage sale. I was so happy, I was jumping up and down!
I think the Jack Nicholson style voice was inspired by The Last Detail.

Interesting enough I didn't even know that movie existed until 7-8 years ago. We had a writer for our local newspaper who sponsored a sort of noir film series at one of the local theaters where films that have "fallen of the radar" would be shown for anyone wanting to attend. This was usually followed up by a discussion after the film. One of the films was "The Last Detail". He explained (I couldn't attend but read the write-up) this was one of Nicholson's early films pre-superstardom (aka No Chinatown, Postman Rings Twice, etc.) but right next to "Six Easy Pieces" which obviously was one that got him really noticed. So good call on that.

I think Shipwreck did better than the other two in that episode.
My best memory of Shipwreck, other than having the action figure, was in the animated series when he and (I believe) Lady-J were throwing apples at a giant slime/green blob creature to poison it. Shipwreck, throwing apples one by one, repeating, "This is the one. No. Maybe this one..." etc. Eventually, Lady-J convinces Shipwreck to abandon the apple throw by promising him a date to go swimming, which they immediately do by jumping into a river, beneath where they were standing, in order to escape the path of the creature.

@黑狮子 Same. To THIS DAY, that episode has never been shown unedited in various reruns whether the show was re-packaged for syndication. Then years later shown on Cartoon Network, and even when they aired it on the Hub before the station was rebranded "Discovery Family". I'm guessing that was permanently clipped to never be aired again.

Big fan of Shore Leave!
I always thought Shipwreck looked a lot like the original GI Joe character.
It amazes me that they call their tanks MBTs or main battle tanks since those are really the only types of tanks most armies have. I mean America's got the Bradly fighting vehicle and the M113 series and Russia has the BMP lines but those aren't tanks, they're classified as armored vehicles and "battle taxis" Most armies of the world haven't actually fielded multiple series of tanks in their arsenals since ww2 Shipwreck was always been one of my favorite Joes and one of my favorites of both sides altogether
My top ten favorites Duke Scarlett Roadblock Snake Eyes Gung Ho Flint Lady Jaye Shipwreck Spirit Snow Job

@Kerry Howard yeah Venture Bros was great it really rewarded it's fans by using call backs to previous episodes and the world they built was extremely cool. I wish shows would dare to be clever with plots and humor again, unfortunately the world is so damn PC now where people bend over backwards to look for the tiniest thing to get offended over 👎. I hate to think what a show like that would be like these days , all the clever material would be pulled because some idiots can't understand humor and how it needs to push boundaries and comment on society and challenge social norms . I'm sorry for the huge rant

@@peterang78 I think Shipwreck in the show was way too mouthy, and was more for comic relief than anything. There were many Joes like Spirit and Snake Eyes with little to no time on the show. What makes them interesting is their past lives before joining the Joes.
Piranha boat came out in 2004 and the 2 pack came out in 2005 not 2007, Valor vs Venom line was 2004-2005 around the time the movie was released. Only VVV single packs were re released in 2008.

Great informative video as usual. Just 1 but strong suggestion for all of your documentary video: Please spell foreign words in the way they are spelt by their native speaker. Not like typical nort americans who either pronounce with their version of english, or refuse to utter them at all. I have witnessed it in many north american video, including yours. For example in this episode in particular, it is correctly spelt as "Äf-ghá-nees-tân", not "êf-gē-nees-tên". Thank you. And keep up the good work. Yo Joe.

@@WhisperingOaks118 Correct. A CPO's uniform of the day is khakis. Bad research by the Joe team writers. Could have just made him a First Class and he'd be good. I see this in the original G.I. as I recall this is one of those guys that girls have never liked at all and would never get a date with a girl even if he was the last man on earth. others just couldn't stand being around him for long periods of time. has anger issues however the one thing he has in common with few is not liking any authority anywhere. but there seems to be one of those in every group. Shipwreck getting shoved away but never gives up keeps being a chaser trying to get the girls around him. he wouldn't stand a chance against Jinx she will knock his ass out. either that or put him out of action for a long time.
