It gets very complicated with Blood Omen 2, the main story is the memories that Kain sees after saving Raziel from the reaver blade in Soul Reaver 2. But the interactions with Janos and the finale of that game take place after the end of Defiance.

@@zacharyhawley1693 oddly enough i'd disagree, Legacy of kain is one series that actually does time travel right. it accomplishes this by enforcing very strict rules on what can be changed and by making the act of changing history very difficult and a significant point of the plot. this prevents the follies of inconsistency other time travel plots have by applying Novikov's self consistency principle, aka "if you went back in time, its because you always were meant ot go back and the events are accounting for your trip back."

I am so glad you followed up from Blood Omen to my favorite game of all time. (With my favorite video game character to boot.) What I love about Soul Reaver is that it starts as what seems like a story of understandable vengeance. In truth, that’s part of it, but we learn everything that Kain did was part of a much larger gambit. Normally, I loathe the concept of the ends justifying the means. But in this case, what Kain does was the correct action even if truly vile. He’s fighting against a foe he cannot fully see that has a stranglehold on the fate of all Nosgoth. One who’s identity he isn’t sure of. It was a gambit of untold risk and danger. However, while what he did to Raziel was atrocious, he also gave the him the greatest gift of all: Free Will. A gift that Raziel comes to fully understand and embrace. Even putting aside all the insane wrath and pain he endured. To become something more.

I will always turn up for Soul Reaver stuff.

Soul Reaver was the first real game I got to play through as a kid. It was the only one I owned on PS1 for years, and I played through it more times than I can count. I can say with confidence this franchise is what got me into gaming. BTW, if you're looking for improved gameplay, LOK Defiance is a big step up in that regard.

I really can't wait for the next episode. I love playing this game back in the early 2000s, and in my opinion it's one of the best series along with a story.

"Let's drop the moral posturing shall we? We both know there is no altruism in this pursuit, your reckless indignation brought you here; I counted on it! There's no shame in it Raziel, revenge is motivation enough; at least it's honest. Hate me, but do it honestly." This is one of the best comeback burn I ever seen in game or others media. Kain cut to the heart of the argument like lightsaber going through Kenobi.

I want to first say that I'm very happy to see this continuation of coverage of the greatest video game series in history. But I must point out One thing you got wrong, while covering the interaction with Melchia, you said "Raziel is not the powerhouse he once was" this is factually incorrect as stated by lore and in game itself the elder god tells Raziel that his strength surpasses the strength he had in his former life. I hope you will cover the remaining games in the series.

I wish the entire franchise was remade. Of course they might need to get new voice actors who could match the original.

Not a remake, only a full remaster in HD. There's no replacement for the original voice actors that would measure up.

@@Batman_83 Like Vampires, who Live Eternal, we can not let the Idea of the Universe of Legacy of Kain in fiction stangante, or die out, or be forever limited to one single instance remade over and over, just because of a single Voice Actor. It would definitely be weird without the same voices. But the voices are just one part of the game. Think of everything else they could do GREATLY to make this games unique fiction and lore come to life. Like the Harry Potter Games and Fantastic Beasts movie, they can do so many great things and make fun games and great movies without needing Harry and Voldemort as the story theme. I signed the Survey they did a while back about gauging interest in a New Legacy of Kain game and they said they got amazing results showing interest in a few years we will have a new game!!

We tried playing Portal 2 back in the day, however she got very frustrated. She has a hard time with spatial awareness which is like 99% of those games. That being said, she has been thinking about playing through the series on her second Let's Play channel: www.youtube.com/@tiptoethetank2

I remember playing this game as a kid... I was too young to understand what the heck the story was about. It was just fun swinging a sword around...

Picturing those flying lil ancient dudes flying around underground in that secret pillars cavern. To do stuff there. What was that room for? Orgies? To touch the magic again after the sun and humans drove them from the pillars on the surface level? Was it like how the Enterprise had a second Battle Bridge to control the ship from? The hylden had an underground spaceship in Omen 2. Everybody went deep back then. It was trending. Interesting idea that they launched the pillars from that room, you. Anyway, good times.

My guess is probably to speak with the Elder God, considering that's where he's chilling (but they couldn't see him). Looking at the depictions on the walls it might also be root of the pillars where they started to be built and the seal made, with the Elder God there watching. It may have also served a ritual purpose in healing and caring for the pillars and part of the reason humans couldn't do the job propperly because it could only be accessed with the reaver back when the ancients were still in control and thriving.

U actually can talk to dumah’s soul while he is pined to his throne. I dont recall how it goes tho.

Ver well explained story, I have a very important request, what, version of soul reaver 2 is this, where did you got it and how did you managed to make it run, I've been trying to make it work on my pc for way to long

Can someone explain why it was destined for William's Soul Reaver to kill Kane? And how Raziel was the only one in whole world to defy fate and have free will?

LoK follows Nomikov's Self consistency principle, which dictates that if you know of an event, its because it was always meant to happen or at least you know it happened before. aka: " if you went back in time, its because you always did." in the "normal timeline" Kain was supposed ot have died at the hands of Raziel which would in turn ensure that eventually Raziel would be subsumed into the Reaver and become the Spirit inside it and by defying this, Kain was able ot be present ot avert Raziel's fate. as for why raziel has Free will, its because of Causality and History ensuring that he cannot perish before becoming the Spirit of the Reaver: when RAziel was executed at the abyss History had to resolve the potential paradox, and the soultion was to exel Raziel from the cycle of Life and Death. This means as Raziel became a wraith(the Elder god did NOT do it, Causality did) he was now exempt from the wheel of fate and therefore was the only creature in nosgoth that truly had free will. Kain being there to pull the reaver out of him at the end of Sr2 didnt free RAziel, it only postponed the point where he would be absorbed buying both of them enough time to potentially resolve the dilemma in a way where both ofthem could live.

35:47 "Returning to the surface and finally getting back in [to the Sarafan stronghold] feels a bit like a backtrack." Calling Soul Reaver 2 "A bit of a backtrack" is an understatement when about 70% of that game is backtracking. Not that I don't still love the game.

Loved the game back in the day, did try to play it one more time in 2023, definitely did not age well mechanics fighting system animations etc.

Top video game with top notch writing and story. But the gameplay was a bad as a screen door on a submarine.
