At last! Flying season is upon us here in the Pacific Northwest! Historic Flight Foundation, located at Paine Field in Mukilteo / Everett Washington, had a fun little get-together on Saturday, April 20, to exercise some of their planes in preparation for the 2013 flying season, and local attendees got to enjoy a great show! This clip features two of their aircraft, the Grumman F7F Tigercat "Bad Kitty" and North American P-51B Mustang "Impatient Virgin?" This features engine start, taxi, and some flybys! Enjoy the music!

Wingspan on the Tigercat is 51.6' and the Mustang is 37, Length is 45' on the Tigercat vs. 32' on the Mustang. Tigercat had four guns in the nose, and four guns on the wings, inboard of the engines. This place, Historic Flight Foundation, is literally across the runway from FHC at the same airport, so you have to visit both. :-)

I thought I had read that the Tigercat had guns in the nose, but I didn't see any indication as the a/c was turning at the beginning of the video. I guess that either I wasn't watching as closely as I thought, or perhaps this particular model was without guns for one reason or another. The trip to visit FHC and HFF would be a long one for me since I live in southeast Georgia. But, if I ever get to where I can afford it, I will make the trip.
How big was the F7F? It looks almost 50% bigger than the P-51. I don't know too much about the Tigercat, so were the guns in the wing roots or were they in the nose like the P38? I guess I need to look it up on Google to find out, unless you have that information readily available. P.S. I REALLY need to get out to Washington and visit FHC. They are getting more and more a/c I really would like to see up close and personal.
