I love what you said about beautiful scenery having an elevating effect on the human soul. Modern man doesn't seem as drawn to and compelled by beauty as he once was. Almost like a DEvolution has occurred in the human spirit. Best wishes on the sale of your lovely home 🕯

@@mr.history6404 Actually, I use a calendar that is exactly 180 years behind the real date, and amazingly it is the same day of the week, leap years and last digit, so a new decade is always a new decade. e.g. I am writing this comment at 18:09 BST on Sunday 4th July 1841, and I was born in September 1827 (precise date not given for obvious reasons)

Good Luck selling your home! It's so beautiful I'm sure it will go fast. We've made an offer on a 1908 home on the south coast in Oregon. It's on 50 acres be cause we are looking for peace and quiet and a small town feel so I totally get your need for privacy! Love your new home as well!

Sarah, who drew the artwork for your books? They are so well drawn and look drawn by hand?

  • @Victorianlady

The artwork for my book covers comes from antique 19th-century magazines in our private archive. :) The originals were printed in black and white; I scanned them, cleaned up the age spots and foxing, printed out copies and then colored them in by hand. The original black and white artwork was done back in the 19th-century using a technique called steel plate engraving. It was a type of etching done on metal plates that were then fitted into a printing press.

If you look at the historic census records as a starting point, you can find out who lived at your address at various years. Then you can track down more information with those names. Try that to start!
