After the coup the situation in Myanmar has turned into a full scale civil war which is still going on today. Multiple different rebel groups have banded together against the government and tens of thousands of people have died. Recently the rebel groups have launched successful offensives and have captured large chunks of territory while the government still controls most population centers.
