Why would @cbum elevate the front foot? Well this variation for any split squat can be an excellent way to increase the range of motion the front leg goes through! Here’s why this is a good thing!

Wait? ROM for what reason other than to say more ROM. More rom is acheived by closing the hip angle not by more rom at the knee. Therefore the quad is not stimulated more but the hip flexors and glutes are. So again, what is the point? Without the context it may as well mean nothing.

Kinda seems like a bit of a concession to the ATG split squat is in order here lol. Idk, why you don’t just show kneesovertoes doing the full ATG split squat since it is he is literally getting as much as you possibly can out of split squatting.

I’m thinking these two are modified versions for people who lack in ROM, and also add less stress on knee joint. And the knees over toes version from Ben Patrick is the goal to get to. But people have different training goals

probably as high as you want while executing good technique. some folks do a couple inches, some do it on 6” blocks, etc. the higher the elevation, the deeper the dip which gives you great range of motion (and as another comment mentioned, a good loaded stretch in those glutes).
