His Parents' Eyes (demo) - by Ágota Varga

HIS PARENT’ EYES /SZÜLEI SZEME (90p)
(angol nyelvű tartalom)
A touching family portrait spanning 11 years, packed full with situations and internal monologues.
Kati and Győző are just like the rest of us, battling with everyday problems and the difficulties we all experience when we share our lives with others. But their situation is far from familiar to most people as they are both blind and decided to have a child together. Ferike is perfectly healthy. Our cameras followed young Ferike and his family for the first two years as they faced the challenges that their unusual life presented. The Light of Our Eye appeared at ten renowned international film festivals, where it collected an array of awards and accolades.
Ferike is four years old by the time he realises that his parents cannot see, and we witness this monumental moment on film. By the time he is ten, he is already starting to think about how best to care for his unseeing mother and father. His is literally his parents’ eyes. But he is still very much a child with all the joys that brings; he sings with his mother and his father tries to teach him all he knows about the complex world of computers. Their son instinctively helps his parents in his own special way. Their unusual interdependency is not without its problems. They often take day trips to Budapest, where they visit museums and the zoo with Ferike as their guide, leading his father by the hand.
Kati has entered a nationwide talent contest and made it through to the finals, so she gets to realise her dream assisted as ever by her sighted son.
Ferike is a great and essential support to his parents. His childhood is not a typical one, his life is far from usual, the very special circumstances of his birth and his unique approach to life make his story quite extraordinary.
