"Subject: I’m Tired Of His Grunting
Dear Steve and Shirley,
My husband and I are both in our early seventies and we've been married for 30 years. My husband has gained a significant amount of weight in the last 10 years and he’s changed in a lot of other ways. His table manners are terrible and he throws food in his mouth and sounds like he's out of breath the entire time he’s eating. He grunts and moans while he chews. Our grandchildren think it’s funny but it drives me crazy. It annoys me so much that I eat in the den. He moans and groans when he sits down and when he gets up. He makes noises when he gets out of bed and when he lies down. Whenever he gets in the bed for the night, he sighs really loud and makes baby noises till he settles in and gets comfortable. I won’t even mention sex because it’s the worst part of my marriage now. Yes, he still tries to be intimate so I play along, but his extra weight and the noises he makes are a big turnoff. He snores like a grizzly bear and coughs throughout the night. If I sleep in the other room, his feelings will be hurt and I don’t want to do that. He keeps his routine checkups and he does not have any health problems, thank heavens. The only problem the doctor noted was that he was overweight and wearing out his joints, which is why he grunts so much. My husband was told to do some cardio daily and follow a low carb diet, but he won’t. He recently suggested we trade in our Lexus for an SUV so he’ll have more room. He seems to be cool with all of the extra weight and grunting but I’m not. Please tell me what to do to fix this problem."
