love the ending -that's the way neighbors should be!
Neighbors helping neighbors sure makes life go a lot better and it'll pay off in the future . Your a kind man Hank . Great video .
Hank, I can’t think of better human beings than you and Calvin. You are both a credit to humanity. What great neighbors ! May God richly blessed you both !

Good on you Hank. I learned from my family long ago that helping neighbors should never involve money, just kindness, fellowship, and a covered dish or pie.

Hank, you are a kind man for not charging a fee as you learned how to run the grinder. That machine is a beast and you will gain many customers as soon as they find out you do a professional stump grinding job. Blessings to you.

Good neighbors hard to beat.
I run a stump grinding business and there are some tricks to it I learned. Grind the side of the stump nearest you first and go down in sweeps to the bottom in dirt, that way you are cutting with the grain of the wood, don't go directly down from the top as that is cutting across the grain and it takes way longer, your teeth wont last as long, its harder on the machine, its also the cause of the head bouncing which is due to too much of the radius of the cutting wheel in wood, this also causes the wood to get hot and harden making the job even harder for the teeth to cut and shortening their life. Get rid of the hood at the front it serves no purpose in open areas and stops you sweeping on the side of the stump as suggested above. Dont raise the boom up and expose the door to flying debris, stumps can have all sorts of things hidden in them like stones and metal that you dont want fired at the door so keep the boom low between you and the cutting head. I wear shin guards and padded pants doing it as I've been hit a few times and that's just a small machine. Once you have ground the side of the stump to about the 3/4 of it, move the wheel ahead of the stump so you are cutting with the back of the wheel upwards. If you keep going on the side to the far edge cutting with the front of the wheel once you hit the root flair on the back side you will be cutting across grain so back cutting gets you back to cutting with the grain which is much faster and easier on the machine and teeth. Also use a chainsaw to block the stump to near ground before grinding, it saves loads of time and tooth wear, far cheaper to sharpen chains than replace grinder teeth.

Cut those stumps down more before you grind em down. Your having to work harder and longer then necessary . And your costing the customer more money. As Time = Money.

Cutting lower has its price to, dirt is in those stumps and can lead to a chain wearing or even worse breaking. That grinder does not seem to care and these two seem to be okay with the process. Great way to learn.

@@xt7190 It was a safety concern over a cost issue, maybe I should have left the wear issue out of my statement. I worked in a rental shop for years and we had a waiver for people renting chainsaws for cutting stumps, we also had a stump grinder for rent. And the teeth on those stump grinder teeth lasted a very long time, carbide is very hard. So I do know what I am talking about. Thank you for the informed comment!
Hey Hank, paint your self a line on the side that in in the center of the cutter. Then you should be able to see where you are cutting easier. I love your videos!!

That is awesome, I do the same thing Hank, I enjoy working on my equipment helping neighbors and friends. I don't take money from them!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have a forestry mulcher stump grinders would be obsolete...... A forestry mulcher can do what that grinder can do and more!!! I kinda prefer the disc over the drum.... Both do great jobs!

I’m sure you kept the stumps tall for demonstration purposes, but if I was doing this as a business I’d chainsaw those stumps down low and than grind them down, safe time and ware on you and your equipment. I’m sure you already know this. lol! Nice video!
Great job! Blessings to the both of you!
Way way way to cool for school. My kind of neighbors!!!
great video and looks like you gents had a good time - Calvins a natural in that machine - nice smooth work. Thanks for sharing Hank and Calvin
I think Calvin might be a natural at this 👍
Thank you Hank. That machine sounds like the cartoon Tasmanian devil😂😂😂.
Sweet grinder! Beats burning that stump and risking root fire.
Nice addition Hank. Set in cool ac cab and grind. Looks like a great way to do it. Grinder looks like a beast
Hey Hank! Thanks for the video. That stump grinder is bad ass. Job well done. That’s cool you’re helping your neighbors out. I wish I was able to do the same

Neighbors helping neighbors! 👍
I paid a guy 450 to do a 12" willow tree stump. But if you ever dug a stump out, 450 is cheap, not to mention he had to haul his equipment to my house and probably took 2 hours with travel. My body thanked me.
Hank maybe try finding a spot to mount a wireless camera on the side of the grinder in a spot that you can see the cutting wheel with a screen inside the cab that might help out ...
@QUIX4U

Maybe a dashcam would do, if placed inside a weather proof box, with a clear lid. Running it's cable back to the cab would only require an extension lead for the VRC monitor function as well as the power lead, as later you can simply swap out the mini disc, memory card thingie.
Hey Hank, that looks like a great setup. I have a woodland mills Pto driven for the tractor, done over 200 stumps. Not sure what the soil is probably sand where your at. I have mostly clay and some rocks and it's hard on the teeth. Keep some spare teeth in stock, you will be able to tell when they get worn. Good job!

Hank You are a good Man.
6:20. Here's a thought, as you said depth perception from above, and "position" of the stump after you grind it to ground level? BEFORE you start, use an updown type road spray can, to mark a line through the stump, far out to either side, as well as a line from the stump, directly ahead of your machine, about 2-3M either way. Then when you have a lot of mulching and dirt there, you can still see where the stump was, to grind it accurately, plus a couple of stakes either side, that have a stringline between them, will give you depth perception regards how low your machine head is, in relation to that string line, especially if you make the top of the line/stakes level with the height of the machine head, when sitting on the ground. That way, as you mulch down onto the stump, the stringline ahead of you will provide you the nescessary "height profiles" you are after. Later when well knowledgable in using this, it will be a natural memory, as to how high or low, you are stump grinding anything else, without needing either the paint, or the string.
Great job Hank. Cool tool.

Practice makes perfect. Muscle memory should come pretty quick. And just as I was thinking, Put Calvin in the machine he jumped in. Team stump go.
Mount a flag on the guard like plow trucks do with snow plow blade. Help with depth perception
Y'all got a funny definition of the word stump.
This is an entertaining video and I learned a bit too.
Priceless
If the other person is genuine and you know they will get you back in the future, why not. Seems like you 2 already have a friendship and, somewhere down the line, you may need help and he will be there for you. Oh yeah, that attachment shreds!
Just curious but why not cut the stumps close to the ground instead of extra wear and tear of your new stump grinder?
If you cut it off as close to the ground as possible before grinding, it would save you a LOT of grinding time and ware & tare on the grinder.
Hey Hank from a side angle it looks like a duck pecking the ground. It's cool
My number one thing! Life is about Planting good seeds.........
I have a grinder much like yours. I always cut the stump to ground level, makes for much less grinding.
Good work mate
2:29 And, if you have never seen any of those others, nor your own videos, I'll just skip along the timeline as that's all pomp and yack to me, I'm not just miles away, but a complete PACIFIC ocean away - so "bomberlite" means zip to me also. I'm just here to see it work.

I think Kelvin should come over to your place and help you drink some of your beers, That's a fare trade.😋
Very nice of you. Wondering why they left the high stumps ?
I moved to eastern Europe from the US. Offering to pay/charge a neighbor here is disrespectful. They will not accept a dime. If you try to hand them money they will just smile and give you a hug.
That's a nice attachment for your machine! I have a manual stump grinder that I don't use real often because it's such a workout! It does basically the same thing with a much smaller cutting wheel, and the side-to-side motion is all "me" created. One thought... perhaps use some bright colored tape or maybe a paint pen to mark and give you a reference as far as where the center of the cutting wheel is?

You a good dude 😊
*SUGGESTION:* We took two angle hardware and screwed them into the sides of our Baumalight Grinders with self tapping screws. Then we use fiberglass driveway marking rods (orange) drilled through and angled towards the blade on both sides. *When my workers are in the cab they can see the rods move...showing them where the blade is compared to the stump/ground. A simple marker to draw notches onto the poles. Just like a tractor bucket level indicator...but angled & on hinges.* Another option is a remote camera, but we tried that and our workers were crashing into objects focusing too much on the camera, rather than their surroundings.
No stump too tough to grind before 5 !!! Nice Job
Put a wireless camera on the side so you can see what you’re doing
Hank, have you replaced your door glass in your BobCat with the unbreakable glass. It would only take once, and you could be hurt really bad. That thing should be a money maker for you.

This is way more than a good neighbor that equipment is expensive and fuel ain't cheap let alone your time
I'm using same thing but on 3PT on tractor. Like guy said, you gotta not get stuck in the bowl or it bogs down...move forward or backward to knock off the edges. After getting down to the ground and everything is covered with woodchips, it becomes guesswork as to where to grind. I use the bucket or shovel to move the chips out of the way. The stump is a good 2-3 times bigger below grade with big roots going off....getting it down to grade is the easy part and then doing 6-8 inches below grade is the hard part. First 1/2 rows of teeth on the outer edge of the rotor take the most beating...mine nearly shot after like 5 huge stumps...one that was 42 inch diameter on top (4 trees going together) and like 6+ feet wide below grade took me all day (realistically like 5-6 hours). I got a backhoe and on the fence what's faster...anything 24+ inches on top probably best of grinding, but anything smaller can probably dig up similar speed (NP to dig a stump in 30 minutes). Honestly not too impressed with the grinder...it's kind of a pain to use and crude...the bolts holding teeth worn down and loose... makes me wonder if I can even replace the teeth to see if it works better.

The only place i would consider using a stump grinder is in a small city yard. It doesn't completely remove the stump. I prefer to use my dozer and remove the whole stump on the farm.
