(Short story) One day I went to the beauty supply store and I wanted to buy a wig that was closer to my hair texture and the owner (an Asian man) told me they didn't have much of a selection for that type of hair texture because no one wants to buy kinky coily hair. I knew their was many people world wide that loved my kinky coily texture just as much as I do. That wasn't up for debate, I allow people to have their opinions and I purchased other items I needed then went about my business. I remember seeing brothers back in the day coming up that looked Asian with afros, and that was their real hair. We call them black Chinese they had no problem with that at all. Most looked like him a little darker, not much, but yes, time has changed a lot. I'm glad you are digging the afro ✊🏿

As an African American, this rubs me wrongly. Some asians like us, but a lot don’t. Seeing what we’ve been discriminated against for and called ugly for is being “trendy” for others to just throw on and take off whenever they want is disgraceful.

My apologies if my previous response caused any discomfort. There's no need to feel hurt. While it might have been different in the past, nowadays, a significant majority of people genuinely appreciate and enjoy Black culture and style, often wanting to embrace and emulate them. It's something to be proud of, and similar instances exist in the history of Asians as well. The recent popularity of K-pop is something we Asian folks are genuinely happy about and take pride in. We sincerely hope that Black individuals also take pride in their heritage.

Us black folks take a lot of pride in our heritage and bloodline, but a lot of stuff gets stolen from us so we try to gatekeep certain things. We appreciate the love, but sometimes we’re a bit confused as to if someone is appreciating us or appropriating us. I’ve seen a lot of Asians show us love which is why I said it’s not everyone bc there’s good and bad people everywhere. Since I see that it’s out of love now, I hope you enjoy and continue your endeavors 🙏🏾‼️

Someone please teach me on the reason for the bitterness I see in the comments. Speaking as a Korean person I know a few Koreans that have hair that is naturally extremely curly/coily so when they comb it, it looks very similar to this (but less firm shape). Yes it's rare but it's there. I like it better than the usual where people end up burning their scalp trying to straighten them out, for example.

Never seen an Asian person with an afro. It's so attractive! I love how it looks in the end, the barber did an outstanding job.

They actually look good with afros
