You are absolutely right, their music is choppy, with a lot of time, tempo, rhythmic and stylistic changes. Usually this can really be annoying or exhausting with a lot of bands, but they are good in making it flow so seamless, that you can easily vibe with it. That's what makes them so great. Also their lead vocalist is one of a kind. They are definately my favorite band of all time.

It always amazes me how the drummer holds the chaos of this song together

System of a down is often labelled Nu Metal, because they had their breakthrough during the Nu Netal era. And there are clearly Nu Metal influences. But there is much more than that. They themselves don't really like that label. They have elements of nu metal, thrash metal, speed metal, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, punk, eastern european and middle eastern folklore. A more accurate label would be alternative metal. They are clearly on the experimental side of metal.

❤ Lots of great SOAD songs. Hypnotize, Aerials, Chop Suey, BYOB, and Lonely Day are great entries to the rabbit hole.

I cant wait ti hear some more soad, because i know you’re going to love this band.

Remember when CD's came out and they told us they would last forever. I had to replace a lot of my 90's CD's multiple times too through loss and scratches. Hooray for playlists.

SOAD also had two albums after Toxicity that were also special called mesmerize and hypnotize. The entire Toxicity album is also special

SOAD are a unique blend of sounds for sure. I grew up on them. This is an awesome rabbit hole you're heading down.

SOAD rules. Two of my favorites are "Psycho" and "Deer Dance." Both off of the Toxicity album. Their guitarist (Daron Malakian) is a madman musical genius, but he does not play many solos.

I still remember myself 16 years ago at the age of 10, alone in my room jamming to this song, thinking: "This sounds so f*ckn good". And that's how all my passion for this band started.

SOAD is killer! First time I saw them was at an Ozfest in the 90’s. They were on a second small stage. It’s a great memory for me.

SOAD are one of my fav concert experiences as well. Saw them at a smaller venue when they were touring the Hypnotize album. I had floor seats, general admission, and was able to get right up front. Serj first came out in pajamas and a house coat doing Tai Chi 😂. They are so good live.

System was my first live concert experience, at Nationwide Arena Columbus Ohio. Then at Ozzfest 07. Both shows were incredible.

Damn, I must have had bad luck, SOAD is one of the only bands I've ever seen live where I left thinking, "what the fuck did I just pay to see?" It was literally the worst live show I have ever been to. I literally couldn't even tell what song they were playing like 85% of the time because the guitars drowned out everything. Thankfully, Korn opened for them and they killed it (as is tradition).

My top 3 System of a Down songs have to be 1 - Suite-Pee 2 - Soil 3 - P.L.U.C.K. All 3 of which are off their 1st album, Serj Tankian is another extremely talented vocalist, and on those 3 songs he is absolutely brutal it's amazing, I highly suggest them

I think it's called Nu-Metal. For songs, BYOB, Ariels, Chop Suy (Suicide Chopped in Half), those are the ones people usually start with. Great Band, they grow on you.

I'd vote for "Aerials" next, 'cause that's my favourite song of theirs, but they're cool in general, so it's all good. Yes, this song was a good place to start. I think this was the first song of theirs that I ever heard, actually. Serj Tankian has a great voice...very powerful. They're an Armenian-American band from California.

This era of music is unbeatable. I highly HIGHLY recommend "Pain" by Jimmy Eat World. They were a massively popular band whose music is unfortunately more well-known than their actual name. Amazing lyrics, solid guitar work, and yes, a brief but very worthwhile solo.

My 2nd fave band 2nd only to Tool love both❤ please do Spiders😊 I got to see them with 2 of my sons before the one passed away it's a special memory we all love soad!!

BYOB!!! I'd never steer ya wrong. I had a hard time getting into them until I saw them. They were unreal good.

Yeah, It threw me too in the beginning. Organized chaos at it’s best. Raw guitars, hard percussion and a unique and raw vocals.

I don't know that you can put them in a genre. S.O.A.D is a genre in and of itself. System does have some tunes with solos. Check out " Violent Pornography" or "Aerials" or Sugar next. There are so many great ones. You're really gonna love this band.

When I heard SOAD for the first time I was 13, it was a shock, the sound, the lyrics, all was poetry and yet so hard and heavy. I used to listen to hard rock, metal and other genres, but this band was something different for me at the time. The message was pretty hard, the use of silence was amazing. There were a lot of bands that seem to be shit at the time but proved to be revolutionary, this one was one of the best and still is. I'm 35 now but I could still listen SOAD all day long. Check other bands from that 2000's, and some from previous years, you won't be dissapointed. Linkin Park, Faith No More, Papa Roach, Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, etc.
