Feel worse any time they play "You Make Loving Fun," which Christine wrote to the guy she was cheating on John with. It's one thing to play on the breakup song directed to you, but it's another to play on the love song directed to the guy stealing your wife.

@@jdb9388 Everything surrounding the creation of the Rumours album is a huge clusterfuck. Two couples were in the midst of breaking up, one of them slept with the remaining member of the band who was also separating from his wife. And they were all doing mountains of cocaine because it was 1977 and they had finally had their commercial breakthrough with "Rhiannon" on the previous album. Fleetwood Mac was having a hell of a time in 1977. And they created one of the best albums of all time because of it.

"It's almost like this track is directed at someone..." Oh, boy is it ever... Fun fact: Stevie Nicks is in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame twice - once for Fleetwood Mac and again for her solo work. Best female vocalist in the history of Rock 'n' Roll, if you ask me. Check out Gold Dust Woman and a live version of Rhiannon for the former, Edge of Seventeen for the latter.

This song is the best ever. Lyrically... it is a masterpiece. Musically ... it is a masterpiece. Not even comparing ... can anyone name a song that can be so honored? It's just unbelievable how the lyrics lure one to believe it is a fun song but when chest deep into it one begin to realize that it is not ... and at the end is the confirmation to clear any doubts ....." you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave." The music does the same ... starts off like a lullaby... and is very nice and soothing and melodic ... lures one into a lay back frame of mind .... but the moment the lyrics cut ... the music turns into something else ... have you mesmerized... trapped ..there is no way you can walk away and not return to listen .... " you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave." One thing I noticed people overlooked .... "she had the Mercedes bends" and not "Benz"... that was on purpose ... not a typo. To have the "bends" is to have an addiction. Her having the "Mercedes bends" is about her having an addiction to Mercedes Benz cars ... or luxury cars. These guys choose their words verrrrry carefully!

Yes, Stevie Nicks has a SPECTACULAR voice. The keys you mentioned are played by Christine McVie and if you havn't heard her voice be prepared to get mesmerized! No band has a right to contain this amount of talent. I have always felt Christine's voice was the soul of the band and, to me, always seemed to be grounded in elegance and grace. She cowrote half of FWM biggest hits. It is Christines voice singing background vocals which give FWM their signature sound, IMO. Only John McVie and Mic Fleetwood have longer tenure thru all the generations of FWM. Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham joined the band in 1975. Your reaction was insightful, TY for reacting.

  • @MrDiddyDee

    @MrDiddyDee

    2 жыл бұрын

Yeah, I take 'The chain' to be bittersweet, the upside meaning of the chain is this powerful unbreakable bond between all the members of the band, that despite their emotional issues they're able to recognise they are more than the sum of their parts, there's a real magic in the music and what they all bring to the table. The downside is these chains are also enslaving them, the commitment to each other, the business, the touring, their careers meshed into one machine. The whole album is infused with emotion, they're all on top of their game and channelling their highs and lows into a work of beauty, raw and disarmingly honest. I'm reminded of a comment made to Joni Mitchell after she released her 'Blue' album, when a friend thought she'd revealed too much in her lyrics and her performances, they said "Save something for yourself!" I think 'Rumours' has that same unguarded exposure of their souls.

One of the greatest songs ever. It is “bass” and “percussion” driven with Stevie’s vocals floating on top. Everything else is secondary embellishment. I’ve watched many videos reacting to Fleetwood Mac’s songs and rarely does anyone comment on the brilliance of John McVie’s bass and Mick Fleetwood’s drumming. Try listening to the whole album again and key in on the bass for each one and tell me it isn’t one of the most significant contributions to an album ever. I dare you. I mean “The Chain” alone would answer that question. Nice job analyzing the meaning of the lyrics.

Syed, you've rapidly become one of my top reaction channels, you got so much right from the get go. Good company, great choices, respectful of the material, open-mindedness, intelligent eloquent analysis, enthusiasm, headphones, lyrics to hand, just the right amount of background knowledge to put the tracks in context. Don't know what time of day you fit your recording in, but it's working, I see so many other reactors who clearly are fitting it in at the end of a hard day and just about stifling a yawn, not really a great way to experience songs that mean a lot to the artist's fans making the requests. I don't think it's necessarily a sign of boredom from them even, it's just that some songs are hypnotic, beautiful and designed to get you in a relaxed mood, just like this smooth track, so it won't help if the listener is already weary. You, however, always seem alert and on the ball. Check out the other female singer in the 'Rumours' era , Christine McVie with her track 'Songbird', she's the keyboard player in the band, and can also break your heart with her intermate vocal delivery. FYI there are 3 lead singers in the 70's line-up of Fleetwood Mac. Just like with Pink Floyd, there was a whole other successful incarnation of Fleetwood Mac during the 60's, both band's lead singers having drug induced mental breakdowns which lead to line-up changes and a whole new even more successful musical direction in the 70's. For early Mac check out 'Man of the world', 'Oh, well' or 'The green manalishi'. Keep up the great work, Syed, I really look forward to your videos, just wish more folks subscribed to you man, you deserve it. Cheers, DJ

Procision review. Excellent. Stevie is amazing, Chris John Mic are 150% Lindsay's guitar sings of a torn soul. One of the best songs in popular music history. The way the band backs each of the 3 singers 150% and comes together as one is the magic of the Mac. And those Mac harmonies, velvet heaven. I first got this album and heard this song at 13. I'm now 58 and still just got my sox knocked off. You have a gift for reviewing music. Oh, and excellent taste, lol.

You can never go wrong with a Fleetwood Mac song. There are so many to choose from that are amazing. I personally love Gold Dust Woman, Gypsy and Rhiannon. Another one to check out is Big Love its Fleetwood Mac but Lindsey Buckingham singing. Christie McVie has some great songs out there too. Check out her songs with Fleetwood Mac like Over My Head and You Make Loving Fun.

The great thing about Fleetwood Mac is the guy she's singing about is standing right next to her playing the guitar.

John McVie on bass guitar and Mick Fleetwood on drums and other percussion are, combined, one of the greatest rhythm sections in recorded music. They have brilliantly handled many different musical styles and songs-from three songwriters-while always complementing the various melodies. Plus, they’ve got a really good groove together. If you haven’t already done so, check out “The Chain,” another track on the Rumours album.

The song uses a simple 2 chord main fiff (G Fmaj7) It seems Christine did not like the simplicity of the keyboard piece so Lindsay worked up that piece for the right hand.

She's harmonizing with her heartbreaker (Lindsey Buckingham) in the chorus. It certainly was a whacky romantic dynamic throughout this Fleetwood Mac lineup. However, the music was incredible.

Insanely popular album, the joke was back then is when you were born the doctor handed the mother her baby and a copy of Fleetwood macs rumours album. the album also is very well produced, back then if you were into hifi rumours was one of the albums you played to show off your sound system.the guitar you like is probably a slide on an electric guitar it might be a lap steel guitar but I doubt it.Its used to create that crying, sorrowful tone.On the cover, she is one singing and the tall guy is the drummer.

With the guitar, the guy playing is turning the volume knob back and forth as he plays the riff.

The volume swells can even be done with the pinky finger curled around the guitar's volume knob, rolling that up and down as you pick. Volume swells like this alter the characteristic attack of the guitar, such that another name for the technique is violining.

@@adambman2 I'd guess that's what Lindsey was doing too, but it could also have been swells rocking on a volume pedal instead. In live versions he doesn't seem to apply the technique at all.

Songs by Nicks and Buckingham in the first two albums were written to each other. Even though there was a hate love relationship between the two they continued together with band for many years.

The guitarist and also the backing make vocals is the target of the lyrics. This band had two couples in it. It makes for a lot of music dealing with love and emotions and pain.

I was in high school when “Rumors” came out. This is Stevie Nicks talking to her estranged husband, lead guitarist Lindsey Buckingham as they stood right next to one another at the front of the stage. Stevie was going after it. And you can see Lindsey doing everything in his power to stay with the song without reacting. OMG, the tension and strong emotions they had towards one another was palpable.

I remember when I bought my first CD I was about 10 or 11 back in 1999 or 2000 and I wanted their greatest hits album sooo bad. I listened to that CD over and over, I adore them and their versatility. Highly say you have to dig into more of their stuff. Love your reactions, especially to Led and Pink Floyd. I’d love to recommend Steely Dan as another group to deeply dive into.

A quick breakdown for Mac newbies... Go Your Own way...Lindsey's song about the breakup... Silver Springs was Stevies (original intended but left of off Rumors due to vinyl space and ended up on a B side of one of the singles and got little attention until the Live version in 97 (very popular here) If you break Silver Springs down it's a straight up magic spell (or hex if you will) everything said 3 times...etc...The souls of these 5 people are forever entwined (I don't mean all romantic but yeah family) This song Dreams introduces the term Player as it's used today...Player's only love you when they're playing...
