Keith Urban is unquestionably a talented guy and, as nearly as I can tell, a really good guy. I just can’t warm up to any of the modern country music. It doesn’t stir up emotion like classic country does. I understand that music, like all of the arts, evolves and I accept that. In the end, we like what we like. I haven’t really liked much country music since the 90’s.

I ran across this song in 2007 after crushing my wife’s heart…this song cut me to the core as I knew this was me. Fortunately, I owned my sht, sought forgiveness, got help for my self centeredness, changed my ways and became selfless instead of selfish. Wounds were healed, trust was rebuilt over years and currently our marriage is more beautiful than the day we said I Do. … it isn’t all about you. Peace

This was a brave performance. He laid it out and gave it all to the audience. It’s often a symbiotic relationship: artists need to be loved and audiences need someone to love. Often it’s a one way street I call Remarkably Insincere (but entertaining), but he earned every bit of this one. I get the feeling his best work never become rote. That makes for a special connection with audiences. All IMO/YMMV of course.

Okay, this is all your fault again! I believe I will be following Keith Urban from now on, thank you. Not only are his voice and songs growing on me, but i am impressed with him on guitar. Although, I would call this as much rock as country. Perfectly okay, a long tradition of that, going back to the 50s, at least. However, I am going to make a case for you reacting to Jason Isbell sometime. He is largely southern rock, but i also hear a lot of country influences. Putting this idea out there, for what it is worth. As always, thank you for new music I need to have brought to my attention. Peace!

JI&400U is at or very near the top of my list of artists putting out new music today. Jason is such a good writer and musician who surrounds himself with top notch musicians. He never compromises. My son is 10 and Jason is his #1. We took him to an acoustic show in Sioux Falls SD a few years back. It was just Jason, Sadler & Amanda and it was awesome. My son ended up with a signed "The Nashville Sound" vinyl and the setlist used for the show. Jason Isbell also appears to be a great guy like Keith Urban. True professionals.

@@bendyrland7213 He is certainly high on mine, as well. Cool about the signed vinyl! I have yet to manage to catch him live, he plays up in SLC fairly frequently, despite the fact that there were freak snowstorms for two of his concerts, one in June and one in September. I believe he asked the newspaper interviewer when it didn't snow around there! (Maybe July 26th?). Hopefully i will catch hi one day. But yeah, I am kinda picking up the same vibe from Urban here as I get from Isbell, which is what made me think of suggesting it.

@@DjPjrocReacts911 the thing is , when I turn on the radio to listen to music, I have certain expectations. That is true if I tune in a classical station, a golden oldies station, Christian radio, jazz, R&B, classic rock, or whatever. This is not what I look for in country music. If Keith urban is country music, then, so is U2. There is not much difference in the sound from one to the other. Country music has always blurred the lions, a little bit, but when you listen to a country station back in the day, the mix of songs was done in such a way that you didn’t mind the occasional stepping over the line. But this is not a step, this is a giant leap over that line into territory that just is not country music

@@mintonmiller problem is, country radio is not country anymore. I am not a fan of Keith Urban, but, most of his stuff is still better than the majority on current country radio. Not only is what is played on country radio not country, it isn’t even good music. I troll KZread for new country that is still country. Only a tiny few but there are some. Try William Michael Morgan. He even has a cute song lamenting the loss of country ‘Brokenhearted’ (from the Neon Lounge). Bought his cd as soon as I heard him. That’s my way of voting for country. And Tony Jackson - The Grand Tour (George Jones Tribute). Bought his cd as well. Don’t think you will hear them on country radio but they both are bonafide COUNTRY.

@@tallestmountain geezenslaw did a comedy song with the line, “you call it country, I call it bad rock n roll” that says it all. My favorite inde artist is Abbie Gardner. She plays dobro, writes her own songs and sings she comes from a jazz background and her music is a mix of jazz, Country, and bluegrass. She was part of a country/bluegrass group called Red Molly. I have 5 of her CDs and by watching her videos and playing to her CDs, she has really made me up my game on dobro. Cm No one in new country music ensures me like that.

@@mintonmiller As my husband often says, it wouldn’t be so bad if it was good rock they were playing, but seems most all genres are now formula driven, and mostly crap. Big money rules, and artistry is out the door. If you want to be an artist you seem to have to go the independent route. That’s why I troll KZread. Many of them put homegrown videos out there. William Michael Morgan did that, just him and his guitar. Tony Jackson did several with his band at home. And in bluegrass, Sleepy Man Banjo Boys started that way. I have heard of Red Molly. Luckily we have bluegrass radio in the Washington DC area, 88.5. They also stream. When country stations went nuts, it became my go to, especially in the car. Thankfully, bluegrass is still close to real country. My other go to is streaming country stations out of Ireland. They are still pretty traditional.
