Hip-Bone Music proudly welcomes bass trombone virtuoso extraordinaire Blair Bollinger to the Hip-Bone U faculty roster. A member of the Philadelphia Orchestra for over 30 years, Blair is an internationally renowned performer, teacher and author. He is currently on faculty at the Juilliard School in New York City as well as the Curtis Institute and Temple University in Philadelphia. Blair shares his tremendous insight on valve technique including the history and development of valves for the bass trombone. At the forefront of this lesson is an in depth look at the valve system he and Steve Shires created for the extremely popular Blair Bollinger model bass trombone by S.E. Shires. A must for all bass trombonists!
Available as an individual lesson or as part of the Platinum Passport.

My first teacher discouraged the use of the 2nd valve independently--mostly because he came up in the days where the 2nd valve was dependent and/or the sound/tuning wasn't consistent. Horns today from Shires, Getzen/Edwards, etc., all have much better designs. Once I saw Blair demonstrate this I kicked that old school idea to the curb and swear by the smooth work-saving advantages of the independent 2nd valve. "You Have 2 valves--use them!" --BB
When I first learned to play Bflat at the flatted third pos. on the f trigger it opened a world of new possibilities. Bravo sir, virtuoso playing! 😎
