Magiging false facts po ang content kong tinapos po ninyo ang video. Alam naman natin na maganda na word na SALAMAT ang nagbibigay ito ng magandang pakiramdam sa ating sinasabihan, ang nangyari sa video niya nirelate niya pa ito sa mga descrimanation na nangyayari na wala namang kabuluhan sa history ng SALAMAT na word. I am also a Christian from Mindanao, and while we cannot deny those terrorism attacks, we cannot generalize them to the whole Muslim population here as we often mingle with them. In fact, personally I have my muslim friends, and they are fine to be with. Those "terrorists" are just a group of radicals who do not conform to the majority of muslims' mindset.

Duterte himself mentioned about this in his SONA. they segregate themselves from the rest of the society because they think they are superior than the rest. this is why they are pushing for the BANGSAMORO (Islamic State).

@@mendicius_jade the individual musulman not the issue. the problem is the ideology that is islam. all these JIHAD is deeply rooted in islamic doctrine. the majority doesnt matter when they do not condemn those jihadists. heck, even their own imams are involved, how do you make excuse of that? when the marawi siege happened, the ulamma council in my city only condemned the killings of "innocent women and children" but they did not condem the RAPING, SEX-SLAVERY that was committed by those Jihadists, you know why? because SEX-SLAVERY is PART of JIHAD it is prescribe in the Sharia. it is what Muham-mad practiced, that is why aside from having dozens of wives, he also had dozens of concubines / sex-slaves and this is what these Jihadists are emulating. and as what i've mentioned previously, there are imams that teach musulman not to mingle with non-musulman because it is Haram / forbidden. that kind of teaching seems harmless at a glance but if you look at it deeply, that is the seed planted in the minds of the muslim youths into hating the non-musulman and eventually becoming a Jihadists/Terrorists.

@@boysilpon Unang-una, kung hindi Pilipino si Lapulapu. Mas lalong hindi siya Malaysian kasi wala namang bansang Malaysia noon. Nagkaroon lang ng Malaysia matapos silang sakupin ng mga Briton. Taga-Mactan siya, hindi Pilipino o Malaysian.

Sa Mindanao may MinSuPala history class kami. History of the kingdom of Mindanao, Sulu at Palawan. I'm so surprised na wala ito sa Visayas at Luzon. Salamat po for creating this channel, this could lessen the gap kahit papaano.

the context is based on Bahasa Melayu and Indonesia..i cud not find any derived words, or usage of the word... For example in cebuano, 1) USÁ is the correct cebuano term for number 1. and not ISA... bcuz there are no cebuano words that comes from ISA.. We have NAGKAHIUSA.. HINIUSA.. . For the SALAMAT there are no other words related to it.. Maybe, IT is borrowed word.. it is similar to SELAMAT, but it's usage is different.. Just like we borrowed the TOMA/TOMAR from spanish to mean 'TO DRINK'... but in spanish you can say TOMAR UN BUS (do you have to drink a bus?)..

@@neilsumanda1538 Didn't you watch the video? He clearly already explained the origins of _salamat_ . Malay/Indonesian _selamat_ and Tagalog _salamat_ via Malay both derive from Arabic سلامة "salāmah" Cebuano _usa_ like the Tagalog _isa both derive from PAN (proto-austronesian) *isa, *esa, or *əsa, therefore both are cognates. Through vowel changes which is reflected as /u/ Cebuano and /i/ in Tagalog. Hence _bituin/bituon_ , _kain/kaon_ , _isa/usa_ .

I think the problem is when translating into English, “thank you” would be the general equivalent but *not* the EXACT meaning.

@PhSt I don't know if this ain't obvious, but Filipino natives who decided not to convert to the Islamic faith are NOT the same as to those who did. They're two completely different entities. And I don't know how you were able to conclude from my short statement that "Muslims OWN the Philippines". It's fascinating how you're like this. I'm not sure how well you can (and understand) but I DID NOT SAY that Muslims own the country. That I am sure of. Speaking of things I'm sure of, I don't know much about your upbringing nor your experiences with Muslims, but you seem to hate them....a LOT. And I have no real idea of what your goal is, but I'm no longer entertaining you and your ignorant questions because I have more important stuff to do.

In Ilocano, we say "agyamanak" to express gratitude. But nowadays some people use salamat more often.

Actually there is a so called "proto-philippine" addressed and reconstructed by linguist, altho Badjaus are excluded to that. It is also the oldest Austranesian langauge after Formosan. Altho in this example "salamat" is a loan word as he mentioned so some or most states only had them not part of proto-philippine language.

Shame. That's quite common amongst kids of Waraynon parents who've settled in NCR.

I think the literal equivalent of saying thanks in the Tagalog language after you receive a favor or gift is "Pagpalain ka nawa (ng Poong may-kapal)". Similar to Europeans saying grace or gracias. But of course SLM (salamat) is also as meaningful to say because you're wishing peace to the one giving you the favor and peace is as important as pagpapala (grace or blessing). In Ilocano (another Philippine language north of the Philippines), saying thank you is "agyamanak" which means "I am blessed", expressing your acknowledgement of the gift or favor that you received. I also think that this "agyamanak" is the more appropriate phrase if your expressing your gratitude to God. (yes it's a phrase; agyamanak is actually concatenated two words: agyaman+ak).

Wow, so Salamat is like the Korean Annyeonghaseyo, for hello. But in reality it’s a combination of annyeong and hada. Annyeong means peace and hada or haseyo is to be/to do. So it’s literal meaning is to be in peace. Annyeonghaseyo! Hello! I hope you are in peace. Something like that. And they also say Annyeonghaseyo when leaving. So it’s also like saying goodbye, take care, be safe! Be in peace.

Actually its not annyeonghaseyo, it's "annyeonghigyeseyo" when you are leaving and "annyeonghigaseyo" for when you are saying goodbye to a person and you are staying, but when typically native koreans dont really pronounce it word by word, so it doesnt really matter, so pretty much you will hear annyeonghaseyo

Enjoyed the etymology section. 👍 Because of Filipinos' casual regard for appropriate language use, one has to be wary of new turns of speech that can develop into a trend that mis or undereducates (filipinisms as an example) And so one time a foreign acquaintance asked if it was correct to use 'salamat' everytime one says goodbye because he said it had been thrown at him a number of times, i reiterated that it means 'thanks' and not 'bye', presupposing that the folks he met may have simply adopted another trendy speech habit. But if the etymology shows it is 'peace' or 'be blessed' and the like, then now i can say sure, one can choose to use it when taking leave. When i use it for leavetaking, it's always prompted by something to thank for. But now that i think about it some more, there have been instances where i used it unconsciously simply because. 😊 A powerful word, huh.

I know there is some thing in the word "Salamat" when I heard the term "Selamat Hari Raya" before. This is why the tracing of the origin of words is very important.

I am excited for the upcoming lesson/episode about the culture, history, and mythology of typhoons, super typhoons, tropical depressions, storms, and thunderstorms in our country (which are mostly or all called and referred to as "bagyo" in the Filipino national language at least). I am also curious about Limahong/Lim Hong/Lin Feng, because I only knew about him and his name and character from the Filipino animated film "Urduja", and which I am also personally a little bit skeptic about its (the animated film's) events, characters, and story as being real, actual, factual, documented, written, or at least accurately based on real, actual, factual, documented, or written historical events, accounts, or chronicles. For me, personally and I guess, the animated film is just loosely based. ✌😁

@@J11_boohoo I was born/raised/live here in the states in southern california. I understand most everyday Filipino conversations, but only over the past year during covid really started to learn more actual real Tagalog and not just the spanish or english loan words.

Before Islam came Southeast Asian kingdoms or nations would either follow Hinduism, Buddhism, folk religions or combination of all (Angkor, Champa, Majapahit, Sri Vijaya, Butuan). This is why we also have Sanskrit words on our vocabulary like 'Karma', 'Dukkha, 'mukha', mata etc. I hope you'll also tackle this part as most of the ancient Indian and Hindu-Buddhist influences was replaced with Islam when it came, though the mainland Southeast Asians and Bali were able to preserve them. Looking forward for this part on your channel thanks

the entire southeast asia was under hindu-buddhist influence. islam is a colonozing religion. islam invaded southeast asia and enslaved the people. the visayans called the muslims MAGALOS meaning destroyer of peace. a musulman is a person following the ideology of islam -which originated in Saudi Arabia therefore NOT INDIGENOUS of this land.

Most tagalogs kapampangans palawenos people from mindanao and some parts of visayas were muslim. The only majority hindu buddhist areas in the philippines were in the rajahnates of the visayas.

Probably the equivalents of "What are you doing?" or "Where are you going?" This is common throughout insular SE Asia - it's just that we just assume that equivalents to "How are you (doing)?" are somewhat fundamental/necessary cross-linguistically. However, if we really think about it, "what are you doing?" and "where are you going?" are probably the long-established (even "ancestral", if you want to put it that way) ways to greet someone, especially informally.

A word might change its meaning overtime, I believe. Although it's great to know where the term came from, I don't think the meaning of the word is technically wrong anymore lalo pa't ginagamit at tanggap na ito sa buong bansa.

Yun din hinala ko. Salam, Selam or Salom in Arabic. Kahit Yung Capital City Natin Manila. Although in history galing sa salitang "Maynilad." Manila comes from the Arabic Word daw na "Amanillah" meaning "In God's protection."

It would still be "Salamat" Because it is still an expression of sincere gratitude. I never said that you shouldn't use Salámat to say thank you. I just pointed out a deeper meaning behind the word that most of our people have sadly forgotten. Hope that make sense 😊

Sa Turkish din may salitang salamat. "Selam olsun" sa Turkish ay salutation o greetings sa English. Tsaka gumagamit din sila ng "Salam alaikum" tsaka "alaikum as-salaam" na nagmula din sa salitang Arabong "salam"

This is wonderful, but you forgot a step! South Asian languages borrowed Salamat from Persian, which in turn got it from Arabic. You can tell because of the final “t” in Arabic, it’s pronounced like “salaamah,” but it’s “salaamat” when you connect it to another word. These Arabic feminine nouns all have a final “t” sound in Persian. Basically, after Sassanid Persia was conquered by the Rashidun Caliphate, the Arabic language was used as the official language in modern Iran/Persia. After the Ummayyad and Abassid caliphates, independent Iranian empires emerged and started using Arabic loanwords (kind of like Tagalog with Spanish and English). These Iranian empires started enslaving and conquering areas with lots of Turkic tribes, namely Karluk Turks (i.e., the ancestors of modern Uzbeks), who then began rising in the ranks of Iranian kingdoms and began expanding empires into South Asia, beginning with the Ghaznavid empire, the Delhi sultanates and then the Mughals. These Turkic kingdoms basically used Persian as their official language in South Asia, and as a result, we took in a massive amount of Persian and Arabic loanwords via Persian into Hindi/Urdu. During the early second millennium CE, these empires expanded to Bengal and began taking over the trade with modern Indonesia, where the words began influencing Malay. The word “salamat” in modern Persian actually means “health.” So basically, the history of the word “salamat” would be: Semitic root (s-l-m) -> salaamah (feminine noun in Arabic) -> Persian (salamat) -> Indo-Aryan languages (salamat) -> Bahasa Melayu/Indonesia (salamat) -> Tagalog (salamat) I’m an anthropologist/archaeologist of South Asia that speaks Hindi, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, and I’m currently learning Bahasa Indonesia and Tagalog for fun.

I believe this thing, kasi ang first converted sa Pilipinas into Christian ay isang Muslim. Naging Christian sya pero dala² parin nya ang Salitang Salamat at yun ay para sa kapayapaan.

Well i love the word Salamat and Mahal. In Bahasa Indonesia Salamat means Selamat like Cobgratulations, Good, Good morning etc. Also Mahal is expensive so guys love is expensive
