Dear friends, you can visit Naarden an old fortified town by bike. You know it is a special town if you look at a map : It shows the star form of the fortification! There are a few of these towns in the Netherlands! The historic part is even called Naarden-vesting ( vesting is Dutch for fortification) It is about 10 km / 30 min by bike one way.

Isn't Hilversum's surrouding beautiful? Now it is Corversbos you enjoy so much and rightfullly so, but wait till August when the heathlands are blooming, turning the environment into breath taking beautiful purple fields. Mates, before I visited from England I had this idea that the Dutch were all dope smoking Hippies. I now know they're not, most are quite conservative with a small 'c'. What struck me was the total focus on civic design around pedestrians and cyclists, they're total commitment to the environment and of course the cycling culture. It's normal to see babies in the front on cargo bikes, on the back of a parent's bike, then as a family group all with a bike. So glad you were allowed to stay, spread the word to your US fans that there is another way. Cars and the Oil companies are good for no one but share holders.

I live in Utrecht and I regularly take my bike with me on the train to Hilversum (for a few euros) and then cycle back to Utrecht (or vice versa, depending on the wind 😀). More than an hour of cycling, but what wonderful surroundings you encounter. Take a break for lunch or a beer along the way. Awesome! and don't forget the Hoorneboegse heath, the Bussumerheide, the Westerheide and the Zuiderheide. With thousands of years old traces of human use of the landscape, such as burial mounds in sight and cart tracks.

(I just glanced at the latest comments. This is your second Hilversum video I've watched.) Me, I used to ride (from Amsterdam) beyond Hilversum quite often. Until personal circumstances and then COVID-restrictions had me "kick off" from leaving home much at all. I find Hilversum an interesting place due to its surroundings that change with the directions. And like most of Het Gooi (the surrounding area, notably the Ice Age sand), its rise from poverty to wealth is just some 150 years old.

11:28 Especially as an unexperienced biker cycling on an e-bike, it can be a bit challenging or overwhelming. Of course, practice makes perfect and with the beautiful surroundings with proper cycle infrastructure, practice becomes more prevalent and enjoyable, but may I suggest practicing with the e-bike in eco mode. It offers the least torque/pull and therefor gives less of an overwhelming feeling when encountering tricky situations and yet allows you to practice more with keeping a balance and such "becoming one with the bike". Sure, you might get to places a bit slower than theoretically possible but you also need some time to actually enjoy the beautiful scenery, right? ;-)

In 1980 I was stationed in the Korporaal Van Oudheusdenkazerne (Corporal Van Oudheusden barracks) on the Noodweg next to Hilversum 'airport' to be trained as a combat medic for four months. It was at the height of the Cold War. After that initial training I was stationed in Wezep, one stop before Zwolle. One night some of the guys and I, all combat medics, had been drinking some beers in the center of Zwolle. On our way back, in the train that was still waiting in the station, there was this American GI who was obviously in a bad state. He was so drunk he was about to slip into a coma. We managed to get him of the train onto the platform where we kept him awake until the paramedics arrived. They took him to hospital because he probably was suffering from alcohol poisoning. He might have died if we hadn't found him.

I do understand why Tammy is prone to fall off her bike. It is coz she too short to put her feet on the ground when she stops. It takes quite some practise for to learn how to properly get off a bike. I am quite short myself too and never fell off my bike but I am Dutch, so that skill does come easy to me.

Hi Martin! My left knee has been in much pain for the past few months and walking seems to make the pain worse. Unfortunately, I have not done my morning walks. The biking does not make it hurt, which is good!!

I hope you know that it is not allowed to hold a phone or other personal electronic device (camera, gopro) in your hands while biking (just like when driving a car). So when you want to make videos you will have to attach your camera to your bike or your body, not hold it in front of you. When you do, and a policeman sees it, you should be prepared to get a fine of 160 euro (in a car it is 420 euro!). They normally will not just issue warnings for this.

Hi Rob! Eric used a GoPro which was attached to his handle bars!! We were warned when we bought the bikes that we would get a fine if we were caught using our phones😅

@@SoultoSoulTravelsI wonder if you have ever heard of the app called Fietsknoop. It is a great app which makes it easy to plan a route from your home (or any other starting point) without the need to constantly look at the map or phone. You can switch the language to English. Peace of cake.
