    Interesting pack. It seems really easy to get on when leaving a vehicle or home. That seems to be the key to actually taking the gear with you and having it when you need it - ease of carry. My wife made me something similar using some military gear and a treestand safety harness. Having a place for everything and everything in its place makes for an efficient way to carry your gear. Thanks for the video.

    Coyote Works - Thanks so much for putting this forward. Ordered the multi-cam bag to go with the tan strap kit...note to all: prices have gone up on Amazon especially if you elect to go multi-cam so shop around on the bag...what could have been $77.00 taxed and shipped in multi-cam ended up $68.00 taxed and shipped. The advise then is shop around for the bag...lots of places sell the TnT bag. Very happy the strap kit shipped today, Friday 12/28 from Oregon...I should be rocking on Saturday

    Been kicking around the idea of ordering Jason's new system to upgrade my gear for this coming spring turkey hunting. The bag I'm using now just isn't up to the task in my ground blind set up. To me that’s the major advantage of the chest pack. Easy access to gear items I use a lot. It’s so convenient to have them right there on my chest. So much easier than digging things out of a pack every time I want them, or having a ton of items stuffed in all my pockets. Cheers!

    Nice review. I do not have a hill people chest pack but the ability to carry a pistol is one of the things that has drawn me to it. The condor won't give that ability, so how do you carry a pistol when you wear a pack that has a full size belt?

  • @CoyoteWorks01

    @CoyoteWorks01

    I’ve thought about doing a video on that very thing. I usually carry my pistol on a belt holster that has a slight drop to it. Not like a drop leg holster. Just one that puts the pistol right below my belt line and below where my waist belt from my pack rides. It’s not concealed like that but I don’t really need it to be in the country I”m out in. Cheers!

    After watching your channel and seeing you use the hill people chest pack I got one. I like using it for hiking and fishing but I hate it for hunting because you can't just pull your rifle up to your shoulder, you have to make sure you pull it up and over the pack. And hunting in Eastern Oregon you might only get a few seconds to pull up on a deer. Maybe for small game. But not large game.

    got tired of having a 40-50# ruck on my head, and wanted to lower the weight to more proper muscles (leg muscles stronger). Legs and arms swing, so minimal weight on swinging legs/arms - and only holding all the small ounce trinkets we all carry - instead of packing in ruck. Ruck, or very small hiking pack can carry sleeping bag, small tarp, my pressure cooker (6# stainless 3-4 quart unit - heaviest item, does so much for other gear trade off, cookware, fuel canisters, etc), food, and water. Any other big gear rolls (horseshoe around ruck/pack) like my 9x9 tyvek/mylar hammock/tent/tarp (1#), or the double mylar air bubble insulated blanket-insulation system (0 weight). My carry system is fully deployed, and my Spring pack weight is 8-10#. A full fall/winter system 10-15#. Design system (PM to Casey) is specific-located for immediate need, lower items can be stream-waded and remain dry, or dry-when-wet, ... other items by arm, leg, chest all hand easy-to-grab and use (priority items nearest grab positions).

    I've had the HPG chest packs on my radar for quite a while. After looking at them multiple times on their website and here on KZread from various users/reviewers I just couldn't see where their cost was coming from. They looked to be 2-3X what a fair price should be. I decided to try this Condor approach. Jason has stopped selling his harness, but a trip to the fabric shop for some snap buckles and by re-using some webbing I had in a drawer, I have improved upon his design for a total outlay of $25 including the Condor. I also like the interior organization of the Condor versus the plain, dual compartment approach of HPG. I grabbed a few things from my camping/hiking box and now have a P-38 can opener, a small LED O-Lite, a magnesium block/firesteel, an orange Benchmade Mini Griptilian, a BIC lighter, a firesteel striker, a Rite In The Rain pen and pad, a S&W Shield and a spare magazine all ready to go in my chest pack. And if you take away the pistol, I can fill up my pouch with all those things and have money left over versus the HPG empty pack.

  • @CoyoteWorks01

    @CoyoteWorks01

    5 жыл бұрын

    I've always been surprised that someone else didn't start producing a version of the HPG chest pack at a much better price point. I though Jason was really on to something with his but he ended up just not being interested in making them any more. I still think there is a huge opportunity out there for another company to come out with something that improves upon the HPG and is at a much better price point.

    I have what I think is a really good alternative to what Jason did for less money and weight. I'm still sourcing some parts, but once I get it all nailed down I'll get back in touch and send you a sample. It won't be until I get a bill of materials and the build time finalized that I can determine if it's worth doing or not.

    i have this T&T pouch and it isnt hard to make the strap system for this, it only cost a person about 10 bucks, so why spend 30 when you can do it for less, just use ur smarts and you'll figure it out....

  • @CoyoteWorks01

    Well I would spend the extra 20 bucks because the time it would take me to round up the materials, purchase them, figure out all the strap lengths, and then sew it all together is worth way more than 20 bucks. But I think if you had the ability, the time, and wanted to save the $20 bucks it would be fairly easy to figure out. Honestly I’m surprised not more people have already. The HPG chest pack is such a great piece of kit. But it’s so simple I can’t believe there aren’t more companies making a comparable product. Cheers.

    Coyote Works i understand, some others cant or dont use their ingenuity, but to some that actually cant spare the 30 dollars, using straps from certain things like duffle bags and crossing them will do the same with the provided molle attachments, i did this when i got my t&t pouch causr i couldnt afford a hill prople chest pack back 2yrs ago, and it works good, i seen this chest rig you wore and couldnt afford one, so i used duffle bag straps and crossed them and attatched them and wore it like a chest pack, and it works for a cheaper price, just sayin.

    All that Molle in the back of pack riding up against your chest seems like it would be uncomfortable.

    Good video. I like the concept, but I feel that $30 for the harness is kind of pricey when I have seen a video where the guy made his own straps for around $10. In any case, what I like and I think one of the advantages to a chest pack is that you can walk around, shoot, setup a camp and easily enter and exist vehicles, drive with it on and not have to take it off and risk dropping it or leaving it in your car or someplace because it gets in your way while performing regular tasks.

    I've been watching videos on the HPG KB and have found its price has gone up a lot over the years, despite not changing much. Is it really worth $130...? Without much competition, I think it's gotten to their head. I can't find squat in terms of an alternative to such a simple design.

    Brilliant! Maybe HPG should watch this and redesign some packs. It’s called customer feedback or a lack there-of on their part. This just makes sense. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid). Thanks for sharing this!! 😁👍👍

    Problem with the Hill People Gear, is that they are always out of stock. Couldn’t buy one if you wanted, believe me I have tried. I’d buy Jason’s version as well, however he is no longer producing and neither is Condor. So what’s a Prepper to do?

    It actually works just fine. The HPG works just fine as well but for somebody who doesn’t want to spend $120 bucks on the HPG, this one functions just as well. Trust me I’ve carried both of them for enough miles to know. And of course I’m going to support my friend. He came up with it in large part from seeing me using the HPG for these last several years. Cheers!

    mhmm well you also failed to mention the main reason behind the HPG kit bag, and this one. i know you dont use it, but it sets the two apart. sounds like a cheap selling point to me pal.
