Hilary Slams California With Flooding And Mudslides Triggering Water Rescues
Post-Tropical Cyclone Hilary pounded Southern California with torrential rain on Sunday that caused rivers to overflow their banks, mudslides that sent boulders the size of large trucks tumbling onto highways and numerous reports of people trapped by fast-moving water. #foxweather #weather #tropics

I live in the Mission Valley area of San Diego. There really was no wind at all but we had a good amount of rain all day. The San Diego River did indeed leave its banks but not as bad as it does with our normal winter storms.

During Hurricane Andrew, my crew, and myself all got shocked (standing water) as we went LIVE on the air! The storm's origin always meant that it was going to have to go over several hundred miles of mexico before it even got to Socal, so it was always going to weaken, zero chance it was going to be a hurricane for us. I disagree, we were told we would get 35 mph winds here north of Daytona Beach, Fl last year. We got 90 mile per hour wind gusts, loss of power. Homes were damaged and the roads were falling down on the coastline on the beachside. The erosion caused by huge ocean wave surges took the sand out from UNDER the roads and they collapsed. That was only a category 1. You ALWAYS HAVE TO prepare for the WORST and hope for the best. You shouldn’t be disappointed that things weren’t worse, it is a blessing, I have lived here 25 years. We had 4 hurricanes in one year in 2004. It was horrible. Very damaging and scary storms. I have learned to evacuate early.

Well from someone who lives on the east coast, they are not used to getting that much rain in such a short period of time there, the soil is also not able to absorb the water like it is where I live and after the wild fires in Maui I guess they feel the need to at least warn or say they warned people about the flooding, common sense is not common anymore.
I live a bit south of LA and like many are saying, it was mild. Rained about the same as a few months ago, just with some mild winds here and there.
Just a little rain !!! Stop !!!
Overblown! This was just a rainstorm.
Im in Fresno and we did have winds that knocked over fences and ripped my RV cover in half!! And left us with no power for 12 hrs..i was prepared, its only common sense..but we still need more water..
I was fortunate that the storm in my area and surrounding area was no where near as bad as predicted and I live near the coast. It’s better to be cautious and prepared than not. El Niño is here so we will see worse weather later this year. People need to be prepared regardless.

Not many people were prepared or used common sense because they became desperate.
