And while I'm on the topic, I'm amazed at how utterly unknown Gidon Kremer is / was in the US. I saw him play to a nearly empty auditorium about 1986, just a few months after Perlman completely sold out a much larger venue in the same city.

Hilary Hahn is probably the greatest interpreter of Bach in the world. Her performance of the Sarabande from the first Partita was sublime. So warm and heartfelt!

I only discovered her this week via a performance of Bach partita no 2 as a student. What have I missed?? Believe me, it will be a great pleasure to catch up.

Ms. Hahn is so good, she makes other great violinists seem almost ordinary.

I have never heard this before, but then I have never studied music. I love it. It is melodic and yet fresh and delightful, and of course it is performed by Hilary and accompanied by an orchestra and and conductor I have admired but I am only now realizing that I am going to be re-appreciating in the coming months. I have known of Hilary for many years as I heard her play at a performance at a Baltimore county park with the Baltimore Symphony at a forth of July Celebration when she was only around twelve or fourteen years of age. She was remarkable even then though she had not yet entered the conservatory of music in Philadelphia. The concert was directed by David Zinman. I want to thank KZread and the anonymous person who uploaded it as it has made my winter a more happy one!

I love Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto no.4 and no.5 but hardly have a chance to listen to them live, or even online. This interpretation is superb.

Surely God must have said "Let us make a wonderful girl, who will change the world with her musical ability and tone and feeling and let's get her a violin". Bravo Hilary, you always charm and overwhelm with your work.

In contemporary as well as classical every note is notated. She is not improvising (making it up as she goes)

Further, if the tape had indeed been sped up, either one or both of the encores would have sounded absurd. But such indeed was not the case. The Sarabande is perhaps not as solemnly slow as some recorded versions, but the Gigue is often taken even more briskly, so the notion of a sped-up tape is risible.

@@ColinWrubleski-eq5sh it’s quite obvious from the unnatural movements of both Hilary and the orchestra that this video is sped up - def not by 2x, I’ve never heard this piece of music before nor did I watch the whole performance but a video can be slowed down just as easily as it was sped up so that could be the answer to your point about the contrasting encores
