I still live with my parents, my dad never really cared much, got Beaten, brused n insuted by boys, acted like he cared but didnt. Needed his attention all the damn time but got none, so I got it from someone else n got pregnant. He got mad n more distant, started having problems because my mom's getting successful n planning to move out, taking his anger out on me. He hit my 10 months old baby boy n I snapped. Rules for dating my daughter: 1) she makes all the moves 2) things only go as far as she determines 3) the road is a road not a track; if you want to drive like you're on a track, you will go to the local track. 4) the time agreed to be home is the final time agreed to. Preach! Behaviors like this only do more harm in the wrong one. It prevents the girl from learning how to date, what red and green flags to look for in a relationship, and how to form relationships. Brothers and a fathers but fathers especially need to support their sister/daughter as she navigates this chapter in her life and should only be protective when the boy is actually abusive.

Robotic Player No that's not how it works. If you have a helicopter parent you tend to want to break the rules and go to extremes. If you're not letting your daughter date and teaching her how to have a healthy relationship as soon as she's old enough to go against your wishes she's going to get into a bad relationship. Its not healthy to do that to your daughter.

Teens with protective parents usually end up either pregnant or getting themselves involved with the wrong crowd. Your first parenting skill should be setting examples at home for your children to follow from an early age on then you wouldn’t have to worry about being a protective parent while they are almost grown up.

Keep hearing this shit but no one backs it up with anything. The ones i personally saw were simply a little more timid and shy, generally. Most of them grew up to be pretty successful and have very respectable careers. Im from an asian background where parents tend to be helicopter parents.

when kids say they dont want controlling parents, what they are really saying is that they want total freedom and they get to do everything they want at their parents expense lol. Then they get into a mess and they expect the parents to come in and save them. All the while still blaming the parents "for not being there or not understanding them". haha we all been through it. Sure, overcontrolling is bad but non-existent parents or spoiled kids are the worst though. I've seen both and the ones that actually have helicopter parents usually end up way better than the ones who have deadbeat mom and dead. Like WAY better. Usually, the biggest problem is that they end up in careers they dont really like, thats it.

Oh god... as a girl who grow up with 3 older brothers and being daughter of a marine guy. Trust me everyone, every guy in my town was scared of me and I never got to date my crush. Even tho he liked me too... :( But having a strong and loving and caring father with 3 brothers in my life was good after all. Dads are so awesome! I have a relationship with a guy for about 4 years. He is my first one. After me and my bf were together for one year, my daddy without telling me, told my bf that he wants them to have a talk.
