I think I went up there a week after you guys. When I reached the top where you could first see it, lava had flowed maybe 100ft from the trail and it was like a week or so after I had been there that the hill you could sit on and watch it got cut off by lava. It’ll be years and years before it’s safe to go back on that hill! Crazy!!!!

Well, these kind of eruptions are quite harmless, they can be visited without being seriously endangered, in contrast with the explosive ones which can flatten many square miles of area! Loved the idea of making grilled marshmellows at the frozen but still hot lava flow! Thanks for sharing this awesome and detailed experience with us! We joined your impressive channel! Thanks so much. We have more videos coming so stay tuned. We saw a lot of kids hiking, I don't know if we saw any kids that young though. Since we visited the volcano a lot has changed and the lava is coming out at a much faster rate now. The lava flow actually breached the steep part of the hike we took, so you can get a lot closer to the lava flow now, but not as close to the volcano. Be sure to check safetravels.is before your hike. They are really good at keeping up to date info on the hike and safety of the area.
