HIKING THE RAPID RIVER TRAIL | RIGGINS, IDAHO | Payette National Forest

Sunday May, 2nd 2021: We took a spur of the moment road trip to Riggins, Idaho for the weekend to hit a trail that had been on the list for quite awhile: The Rapid River Trail. This trail sits in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness in the Salmon-Challis National Forest and our main reason for wanting to do this trail this weekend was for the fact that it is a fantastic option for an early season hike or backpacking trip.
The trail begins at the Rapid River Trailhead, and follows the river for the entirety of the hike. At times, you're tucked down right next to the river while at other times you could be 100 feet above it. The trail is always changing, and provides extremely scenic views. If you're looking for an early season trip, this one may be for you.

Thanks for the video. I’m from Oregon and did this trail because I watched your video. It was definitely well worth the hike. And I did see a couple snakes 🐍 on the trail.

Hey Charley! Sorry for taking a few days to get back to ya! I was actually thinking of maybe trying for the Snake River Trail in the coming weeks. Are there any backpacking spots/places to camp? I need to do more research. Hope you can check out the Rapid River Trail! Thanks for watching!

@Danny Schaefer Great hike from Pittsburgh Landing. We came upon Kirkwood Ranch 6 miles in, which is kept up by FS volunteers that were more than friendly. The history is amazing & plenty of camp spots on the river. We only met a couple other hikers. Our goal was Caribou Campground but cut it a little short🌲

Sorry for taking a bit to get back to you - we just got back from a backpacking trip! Aha, you betcha! I use a GoPro Hero 8 Black for all of my filming with the media mod, and at times in windy conditions I’ll use a Rode Video Micro to help out with audio. I have a camera mount on one of my Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork WR trekking poles, so I can use it as a monopod to film and hike at the same time. Then.. I carry the GoPro Jaws mount as well as a bite mount if I need to be hands free. .. I may or may not have a video planned to show my filming setup one of these days :) Thanks so much for watching and for supporting the channel!

Looks like a blast! Might be a good short overnight! I am back in better health, man it's been a long 3 weeks. Hoping to get out on the dirt tracks maybe some spring snowshoeing in the next week or two here in WA. Another great vid Danny!

This one was great! Lots of little campsites along the trail, and from what I’ve researched it continues for quite a ways past where we stopped. Apparently you can even access the Seven Devils from it. Glad to hear you’re back in better health, Len! A little dirt track therapy will be sure to get you feeling better. No St. Helens for us this weekend.. the weather forecast was too wish washy to risk the 7 hour plus drive from N. Idaho for us.. maybe another time. Thanks again for watching and for your support to the channel!
