Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (our biggest challenge yet)

Join us as we face our biggest challenge yet: hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu! We did the Classic 4 Day / 3 Night Inca Trail to Machu Picchu trek with Alpaca Expeditions. This challenging hike is 26 miles long and takes you to nearly 14k feet of elevation!
This was such an important moment for us crossing off HIKING THE INCA TRAIL which has been at the very top of our bucket list for years now. We can both honestly say it was equally the most challenging and rewarding experience of our lives thus far and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Every step we took was difficult in the high altitude of the Andes Mountains, but it was so worth it as we were surrounded by the most stunning landscapes we had ever seen at every turn.
Thank you to our Inca Trail tour operator, Alpaca Expeditions, who were incredible. And special thanks to our guides, Ted + Will! We could not have done it without you.

    This was seriously the most challenging thing we have ever done (so far), but SO worth it. Would you hike the Inca Trail?!

    Very cool video!!! My daughter and myself did the exact same hike with Alpaca in August along with the stairs of Death (hard but not that scary). Thanks for posting as it was a nice hike along memory lane. One of my best experiences yet!!!

    Thank you so much for posting this, I go next Friday, very nervous but you’ve very much reassured me, I’m frightened of heights but there seems like a good trail you walked on, you should be super proud you made it look easy, congratulations both well done 🎉

    Thank you so much for your kind words, Annie! I'm SO excited for you and I'm sure you're going to do great. 💗 It is such an incredible experience I would do it again in a heartbeat! Our close friend is also afraid of heights and had no issues on this hike, so you should be alright. The only suggestion I would make is skipping the Huayna Picchu hike you can add on, which you do after reaching Machu Picchu. It had some very steep drop offs, so our friend skipped this and you get more time to explore the ruins which is a plus. I hope you have an amazing trip!! 🙌

    I did it in 1987. Nearly killed me. I went with a school friend. There were zero restrictions back then and we had to plot our own way. 1 guy in another party 2 days behind us slipped and fell into a ravine. He didn’t make it. It’s hard and dangerous. I was a fit 18 year old. I could not do it now. Only regret is we didn’t have digital cameras back then. Only 1 roll of my film made it back.

    Wow, I can't even imagine. Sorry to hear about the fellow 2 days behind you, how scary. It really is a difficult and dangerous trek to be taken very seriously. We all agreed afterward it was the most difficult (but rewarding) thing we had ever done. I definitely used the digital camera as an excuse to take lots of breaks while taking photos and videos haha. I bet you got some beautiful film shots. Thank you for sharing your experience!

    Hi, thanks for watching! 3 of our group used the Osprey Daylite Plus (20L) backpack. I personally used the Osprey Daylite (13L) as I have a smaller frame. You are carrying your water, snacks, extra layers (when it gets warmer during the day), and misc (camera gear, sunscreen etc). We really love the Osprey brand since they have a lifetime warranty, high quality, and we used their compatible water bladders as well. Links in the description under Hiking Gear if you want to check them out. I hope this helps!

    @@AdventureswithPinny and here I was thinking of getting a 75L one haha Do you think 55L is too big? I would like one that also allows me enough space for 1 day hiking with a tent. Do they have a size limit? Thanks again

  • @AdventureswithPinny

    @AdventureswithPinny

    I'll be honest, I'm not sure what size pack would be good for hiking with a tent. Since the Inca Trail is regulated by the Peruvian government and requires hiking with a guide, most tour guide services include porters which will carry your tent and camping equipment (and usually a specific weight limit for other goods such as personal items you would only need at night). I'm sorry that isn't much help. If you have chosen your guide company and they don't include porter services, I would ask them for their recommendations as they will know best from their experience working with other trekkers over the years.
