Great video! Thanks! If I jump on NoBo at Flagstaff late April, Do you think I can just walk up and get permits/campsites at the Grand Canyon? Just want to clarify, thanks so much, you’ve inspired me and I have a window so…

Hi! Awesome video! What about where to camp… are there designated spots? Campgrounds? Mostly interested in the northern section near flagstaff, I plan on section hiking that portion and can’t find details on where and where not to camp. Thank you!

Its all public land camp where ever you like. Except in the grand canyon, you need to have paid for a campsite or permit for back country camping. There are a couple campgrounds but not many i know of 2 near lake mary

Thinking about starting on the very early side of March this year. I know I’ll have to keep an eye on snow reports. In another video you mention that the north rim station may not be open. Do I have a lot to worry about with that?

On a normal year, you dont have to worry about the north rim being closed. But this year the trail was closed too. Only a few hikers thru hiked nobo this year. How many miles do you walk per day avg? 🤔 i have many other videos on the AZT, some on the canyon alone.

I really want this to be my first thru hike! I live a few hrs west of the GC too so easier for my husband to help me out with resupply. I'm wondering about a cache... my fear is relying on my water supply and having it stolen. Has that ever happened to you and what would you do?

  • @calveshikes

I would always cache more water then needed to prevent that. I would not recommend this as your first thru hike but so as you wish

Hi. I have been watching many of you videos. I am trying to plan the AZ through hike. I live in AZ and have done several day hikes. But never a through hike. I am a slow hiker. I want to give you some numbers and I want your opinion about the feasibility. I don't want to get myself in trouble here. Age:38 Gender: Male Direction: NOBO Pack base weight: 17 pounds Water carry capacity: 4 Litters Water strategy: Far out app info. Daily food weight: 1.35 pounds Daily food calories: 2320 Daily distance: (15.5 miles) 25 km (Except grad canyon rim to rim will be more) Total days: 66 (2 days travel, 8 days resupply/recharge, 56 days hiking) Start date: March 1-10th Resupply strategy: Resupply box to USPS Can you please tell me if I am losing my mind or not? I will not hold you accountable for my final decision. Just need advice from an experienced person. Thank you

Ok, so i think you will eat more than you think. I also think you will hike more than you think. Base weight could come down a bit but without knowing your gear its hard to say what. Im 40yrs old so anything is feasible, biggest step is getting to that terminus which i do shuttles for. Happy trails Calves

The poncho is because Ill get wet without it. Nothing is water proof so not sure how to handle that. The phone I can get rid of. I just have that because I'm paranoid since I get all my info from my phone. The water bottle is the weight of two of them. The tent is pretty heavy but it was only $50.
